Sholay (1975)
This cult classic is one of the best films based on friendship that the Indian cinema has given. Sholay captured the true meaning of friendship and gave it a whole new dimension. The characters, Jai and Veeru played by Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, has become an epitome of friendship. “Pyar dosti hai.” This popular dialogue gave us our first insight on what friendship is and how it’s the first step towards falling in love. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai popularized the significance of friendship day and friendship bands. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee in the lead roles and explained how a friend can fight for and make sacrifices for someone else’s happiness. This film revolves around the story of three friends and captures the hardships and tough times that their bond undergoes. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008)
The story of Jay (Imran Khan) and Aditi (Genelia D’souza) showcases the special bond that they share in the film. The film celebrates friendship and talks about the lengths you’d go to give your friends true happiness. Jay and Aditi being best friends know how to make each other smile and happy. There comes a point in the film when both Aditi and Jay find love in their life. While parting ways, they realize that they’re meant to be. Could there be anything better than two best friends falling in love? We think not.
3 Idiots
3 Idiots throws light on the story of 3 friends who meet in an engineering college and become best friends for life. What’s different? This film stands apart in the sense that it explains how friends give life to their friends and show them right direction in life. Their simplicity of friendship also made us realize that the few friends you met in college can stay forever and everyone has that one crazy friend with out of box ideas.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara manages to capture the spirit of modern day friendships perfectly. The story is a journey of 3 friends who go on a road trip and confront the ups and downs of life together. The film gave many life lessons and preached that friendship doesn’t look at things such as your family background and bank balance.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a film which not only is about friendship, but it gives lessons about life and love. This film made everyone realize that some friendships are forever. It also conveyed a message that celebrations remain incomplete if your best friends are not by your side. One also learns that you get wiser with age, and that time heals everything.
