The Oscars are one of the most awaited awards. That time of the year is already arrived! On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the list of 10 categories for the 97th Academy Awards which includes Documentary Feature Film, Documentary Short Film, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live-Action Short Film, Sound, and Visual Effects. The first round of Oscar voting will start on January 8, 2025, and close on January 12, 2025. The nominees for all categories will be announced on January 17, 2025. Final voting will take place from February 11 to February 18, 2025.

The highly anticipated ceremony will stream on ABC and Hulu on March 2. Before the Oscars, other major award bodies will have their say, starting with the Golden Globe Awards on January 5 and the Critics Choice Awards on January 12. The British Academy Film Awards will release its longlists on January 3, with nominations following on January 15 and the awards ceremony will take place on February 16.

Everyone was waiting for the Laapataa Ladies to be nominated, but unfortunately, it didn’t move ahead and was unselected for the Oscars 2025.

Conclave and Wicked were the Critics Choice Awards films for this year. Conclave earned recognition in multiple categories, including Best Picture and Best Acting Ensemble. Ralph Fiennes received a nomination for Best Actor, with Isabella Rossellini up for Best Supporting Actress. Director Edward Berger was nominated for Best Director, while Peter Straughan’s work on the screenplay earned a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination. The film also received nods in technical categories, with Stéphane Fontaine nominated for Best Cinematography.

Other nominations for Conclave include Suzie Davies for Best Production Design, Nick Emerson for Best Editing, Lisy Christl for Best Costume Design, and Volker Bertelmann for Best Original Score.
