On September 2nd, Youth Incorporated had the pleasure of sitting down with Gargi Sarkar for an insightful and lively interview, where we delved into her impressive career and passions.
Gargi Sarkar is a renowned international English language program teacher who excels in facilitating both academic and business English learning, while also promoting cross-cultural exchange among students from varied backgrounds. Over the years, she has journeyed to vibrant destinations like the USA, the UK, Mexico and South East Asia to add to her list of remarkable teaching experiences. In addition, she has interviewed teachers from 35 countries around the world for her podcast.
In our engaging conversation, Gargi shared her thoughts on her work, her educational endeavors, and her popular podcast. She also spoke about her numerous achievements and her role as a passionate advocate for girls’ education.

Q 1. Please share with us your educational achievements.
I hold a Master’s degree in English and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. I’m also a Fulbright Scholar and have participated in several international exchange programs, including those at George Mason University and the University of Massachusetts, as well as serving as a Fulbright Teaching Fellow in the U.S.A. I’ve delivered talks at major universities, including recent in-person presentations at the University of Cambridge. Additionally, I’ve spoken at international conferences like TESOL, USA and Asia TEFL. I’ve contributed to educational publications worldwide, including writing chapters for an English Teaching Manual on Digital Literacy funded by the US government.
Q 2. How did your Fulbright experience shape your approach to education and your understanding of life?
My Fulbright experience profoundly influenced my approach to education and deepened my understanding of life, especially within the Indian context. As I embarked on this journey to the U.S.A, I sought clarity on how I could make a meaningful impact back home in India, where education plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our diverse society.
The exposure I received through the Fulbright program allowed me to connect with educators and thought leaders from various cultural backgrounds, enriching my understanding of how education can be a powerful tool for bridging differences. These interactions helped me appreciate the importance of empathy in education—an essential skill in a country as diverse as India, where differences in language, religion, caste, and culture are part of our daily reality.
Sharing my insights and experiences with thousands of people, both in the US and upon my return to India, gave me a platform for meaningful dialogue. It was humbling to realize that my voice could contribute to global conversations on education, Through these experiences, I developed a renewed sense of purpose.
This transformative experience also inspired me to launch the podcast Text to Task: Simplifying Education focused on promoting inclusivity, understanding, and collaboration.
Q 3. What is your podcast Text to Task: Simplifying Education all about? Could you tell us how you started this journey?
Text to Task: Simplifying Education is a free podcast available on all platforms with thousands of listeners and downloaded in over 40 countries. It captures the spirit of global education and empowerment by sharing tips for learning English and stories from classrooms around the world. The podcast also gives a platform to teachers working in challenging environments like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, North Korea, South Sudan, Ukraine, and Myanmar.
Q 4. Can you share a particularly impactful episode or guest from your podcast and why it resonated with you or your audience?
One of the most impactful episodes featured a teacher from Afghanistan who shared her experience of teaching girls in a conflict zone. Her resilience and dedication deeply resonated with me and our listeners. It highlighted the immense challenges educators face in such regions and underscored the need to support these courageous individuals.
Q 5. As an advocate for girls’ education, what are some of the key barriers you’ve observed that hinder girls’ access to quality education?
Some of the main barriers include cultural norms that prioritize boys’ education, early marriage, lack of access to safe and inclusive schools, and limited financial resources. Additionally, systemic issues like inadequate policies and infrastructure further hinder girls’ access to quality education. Addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach, including community engagement, policy advocacy, and grassroots initiatives.
Q 7. Recently, you conducted a session at the US Consulate on social media and enhancing communication. Can you offer some tips on creating compelling and effective social media content for our readers?
To create compelling social media content, focus on being clear, authentic, and engaging. Understand your audience and tailor your message to connect with them. Use visuals, videos to make your content more appealing, and always include a call to action. Consistency is important, so keep a regular posting schedule and engage with your audience to build a community.
Q 8. What are your current and future goals in your role as an educator and podcast host?
Right now, my goal is to expand my podcast’s reach, especially to share tips for mastering English and include more voices from underrepresented regions. As an educator, I want to continue advocating for digital literacy and girls’ education, both in India and globally. In the future, I plan to continue writing on these topics.
Q 9. If you could give one message to the youth, what would it be?
Believe in the power of education to change your life and the world around you. Stay curious, keep learning, and use your knowledge to make a positive impact on society.
