It is common to hear people say that they are not motivated to workout. I want to give you three key methods you can use to overcome this issue.
First, commit to warming up
This is such a simple and easy solution. I hear people say all the time that the hardest thing to do is to get to the gym, but once they are there it’s easy.
The next time you feel unmotivated to go to the gym or go for that cardio session, just simply agree to just do the warm up. Once you do the warm up, your state of mind will be elevated and your body will feel like doing the workout. A body at rest wants to stay at rest, but a body in motion will want to stay in motion. Whatever you do, when it’s time to workout and you are contemplating skipping it, just say, “I will make my decision after the warm up.”
“You will never regret a workout, you will only regret a missed one,”- Jason Scott Johnson
Second, imagine how great you will feel after the workout
This strategy is an effective way to feel a pull to do the workout. The reason that we do many things in life is because we know it will feel good. There is no argument that people feel better after exercising. It is often called the “runners high” or “sports high.” There is no denying that an active body makes you feel good.
Not only do you receive the instant gratification of the enhanced mood that results from exercise, but you also get the rewarding feeling of fulfillment because you know that you did something great for your body, mind, and soul.
Plus, many people receive their best ideas after a good training session and feel much less stressed about anything that was bothering them. Training gives you a break (vacation) from the day’s stresses and allows you to take a look at challenges from a new heightened position.
Third, focus on your goal and why you want the goal
This last tip is huge! It is important to have a clear goal and even more important to know exactly why you want this goal.
Focus on all of the benefits of achieving your goal. How will it make you feel better? How will it inspire others? What new things will you be able to do with your goal achieved? How much more confident and happy will you be when your goal is a reality?
Imagine how your life will be different with you stepping into your goal.
Now realize that the 30 minutes or hour will pass if you train or not. You can either be a step closer to your goal or two steps further from your goal. Simply put, Progress equals happiness.
As a bonus, additional tools to use to get you going could include watching motivational videos, listening to great music that fuels you, or even looking at pictures that inspire you.
