Best Thing About the Job
The thing that I love the most about being a plastic and cosmetic surgeon is that fact that I have the ability to correct post-burn and post-accident deformities. I also love the fact that I can change even the artistic touches to God’s creation-the human body.
The thing that motivated me to become a cosmetic surgeon was the fact that I have the ability to modify or correct the deformities that people suffer from. In addition, it also gives me the chance to help people who wish to and improve or modify one’s looks.
Growth Opportunities
There is a lot of potential for people to grow within this industry. As people of all ages are growing more conscious about their looks, the demand for cosmetic surgeons is sure to rise.
Remuneration
In this profession, one can expect to earn around Rs. 1 lakh per month in the initial stages. As you gain more experience, you can earn approximately Rs. 8-10 lakhs per month, when you have close to ten years of experience.
Challenges
People who come in for cosmetic treatments, sometimes have dreamy expectations. They come with the intention of looking like their role model, who is usually an actor or a model. Meeting the expectations of such people can be really challenging for a cosmetic surgeon.
Typical Day at Work
In the morning I have both major and minor surgeries lined up. You need to be tactful and have great presence of mind to perform these surgeries. Towards the evening I perform procedures such as filler and Botox, in addition to my consultation services.
Qualities/Skill Set
In my opinion, the most important thing you need to become a successful plastic or cosmetic surgeon is a high IQ level. This is necessary in order to perform the skilful surgeries that this job demands. Another quality that is essential for enjoying a rewarding career as a plastic/cosmetic surgeon, is being sincere towards your work.
Educational Background
To become a plastic surgeon, one has to pursue a M.B.B.S degree, followed by a master’s degree in surgery (MS) and then a Master of Chirurgical degree (Mch) in plastic and cosmetic surgery. My education has helped me greatly because today I am a properly trained superspecialist.
Scope in India
The scope of cosmetic surgery in India is ever-increasing. The opportunities in this field are bound to increase progressively as people are a lot more conscious of the way they look in today’s world.
