In the past, students aspiring to pursue medical education in India were required to have completed two years of regular study of physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology in Classes XI and XII, along with practicals and English. As per the new guideline of the NMC, the students who have cleared 10 and +2 with physics, chemistry and mathematics as their core subjects will be eligible to appear in the NEET (UG) and after clearing the all India pre-medical entrance test can take admission to MBBS and BDS courses. However, they have to pass the biology/biotechnology examination as an additional subject at class 10 and +2 level from any recognised board. Besides, they need to get an eligibility certificate from the NMC, a legal document confirming their eligibility to study undergraduate medical courses outside the country.
