NMC a new body to function as India’s top regulator of medical education

The National Medical Commission ( NMC ) has replaced the Medical Council of India (MCI). NMC is now the country’s apex regulator of medical education and profession. Dr Suresh Chandra Sharma will be the chairman of NMC for a period of three years. 

Students from Maharashtra can access BMC’s online classes

Students who are unable to attend online classes for any reason can now access BMC’s online classes for free. The application for the same should be done by filling a form available on  BMC’s portal. Once the application is accepted, the student is expected to attend class regularly.

Nationwide protests against the recently passed farm bill to begin today. Farmers have called for a complete shutdown in Punjab. They urged residents to abide by  a bandh from 10 am to 4 pm on Friday. The Opposition parties want the government to take the  bills back

Khushi Chindaliya has been appointed as Regional Ambassador for  India by the United Nations Environment Programme – Tunza Eco-Generation. During lockdown she took up the task to educate herself about environmental degradation.  She wants to look for ways to preserve nature as it has slowly disappeared in her hometown.

Johnson and Johnson is the fourth company in the US to announce that they are conducting final stage trials for the vaccine. The company says that they will know by the end of the year if the vaccine proves to be successful. This vaccine does not need to be kept frozen and could require only one shot instead of two. 

Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam passes away due to COVID

SP Balasubrahmanyam had been hospitalised almost two months ago with mild COVID-19 symptoms. There is a burst of tributes and condolences coming for the 74-year-old singer  on social media.

Amitabh himself had recovered from the virus a while back and ensures that all precautions will be taken to conduct the show. 

68 services introduced for local trains in Mumbai

To prevent overcrowding of trains in this pandemic, the Central Railway has introduced 68 additional special suburban services in Mumbai, bringing the total number of CR services to 423. Essential service staff, bank employees, PSUs and pharma companies  are allowed to travel in the local trains. QR code-based identity cards are mandatory for travelling in these trains.

Finland deploys dogs who can detect COVID-19

Finland’s Helsinki Airport has specially trained dogs to detect COVID-19 infected people with 100% accuracy. Passengers will be required to submit a sweat sample by wiping a cloth on their neck. Dogs will sniff out the infected samples.
