1. Delhi University  to conduct final-year open book exams from 10th to 31st Aug

Delhi University has informed the high court that it will conduct its final year open book exams in the month of August. This decision came after UGC guidelines decided that all final year exams must be concluded by September.

2. CBSE Class 10 board result to be announced tomorrow

Amid COVID-19 concerns, the CBSE will announce it’s class 10 board results tomorrow. Pending exams which were scheduled to take place in July were canceled and marking was done based on the papers already given. Class 12 CBSE result was declared on Monday.

3. Andhra Pradesh postpones Common Entrance Tests due to COVID-19 pandemic

With over 14000 active COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh, the state has decided to postpone all CETs till the third week of September. First-year, second-year degrees and Post-graduation first year exams have been deferred.

4. Inspite of worldwide ‘black lives matter’ protests, Brazil policeman stands on 51-yr-old black woman’s neck

A video showing a Brazilian policeman standing on the neck of a 51-year-old black woman’s neck has surfaced amid protests against racial discrimination worldwide. The woman suffered a broken neck and a cut that required sixteen stitches. She has said that she was just trying to intervene as a peacemaker between the police and her friend, who was being questioned over a noise complaint. Two policemen have been suspended. 

5. Pakistanis sing “Jana Gana Mana” with Indians in UK during anti-China protest

In a pleasant and seemingly out of this world situation, Pakistani protestors joined hands with Indian protestors outside the Chinese embassy in UK to sing “Jana Gana Mana” and “Vande Mataram”. These activists were protesting against the blatant disregard for human rights in China. 

6. ‘Dil Bechara’ trailer breaks YouTube record after getting 10M likes

The trailer of Sushant Singh Rajput’s final movie, which released on 6th July, became the first film trailer on YouTube to get 10 Million likes. It had also broken the record of the most liked trailer video in the first 24 hours of its release. The trailer has over 72 million views in 10 days. 

7. Indian newspapers from 1966 recovered from melting French glacier

Under the ice of a melting Mont Blanc glacier in the French Alps, Indian newspaper copies were found. The site was where an Air India flight had crashed 54 years ago. The papers had headlines about Indira Gandhi’s election as the first Indian female Prime Minister. The newspapers were surprisingly in very good condition. 

8. Real Ayodhya lies in Nepal, Lord Ram is not Indian: Nepal PM KP Oli

Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli made a statement which said that Lord Ram was Nepalese, and not Indian, according to the Valmiki Ramayana. According to him, Nepal has been culturally oppressed and “facts have been encroached”. Ayodhya is also a village in Nepal close to the town of Birgunj.

9. Trump’s Twitter account restored after being suspended over ‘hateful conduct’

Amazons live streaming service Twitch has reinstated Donald Trump’s account, which had been suspended two weeks earlier over “hateful conduct”. The move was triggered by two videos, one was his campaign rally, in which he had said that Mexico does not send its best people, it sends drugs and rapists.

10. University of Missouri Researchers make medical wearable using a pencil and paper

Researchers at the University of Missouri have created a medical wearable bioelectronic device with the help of a pencil and paper. According to their study, pencils containing over 90% graphite are capable of conducting high amounts of energy from the friction caused when writing on an office supply paper. The graphite can double up as a sensing electrode. This can be put to use to monitor temperature and glucose levels.
