A UK based charity has warned British tourists and expats across the United Arab Emirates that if they are raped, they should let it go and not report it. The shocking guidelines come in the wake of a woman who was gang raped, but arrested and charged with extramarital sex.

Detained in Dubai, an organisation that helps rape victims through this injustice has warned not to report rape or other crime which take place in the country because of extreme manipulation when it came to criminal accusations and racial profiling against Western tourists.

Founder of Detained in Dubai, Radha Stirling said that apart from the recent case, there have been several other shocking incidents of rape in the recent years where the victims have been detained. All this while their attackers go free. Speaking to media, Radha said that there are several people getting in touch with them asking if they should report crimes, both major and minor and very often the say absolutely not.

The despicable treatment towards rape victims comes as rape is seen as extra marital sex. This is seen as a crime under the Sharia Law which governs the United Arab Emirates. Amnesty International has also said that such treatment of victims reveals a deep prejudice against women in the UAE.  Drewery Dyke, a researcher at the organization lamented that authorities continue to fail victims by treating women as criminals instead of investing and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
