CAT exam be held in regional languages too, requests IIM director
Prof Dheeraj Sharma, the director of IIM-Rohtak, has raised the issue with IIM-Indore, the coordinator of CAT for 2020, and requested that the CAT exam be held in Indian regional languages as well. The CAT examination is currently conducted only in the English language. As per the media sources, Prof Sharma has sent a letter to IIM-Indore director, Prof Himanshu Rai, stating that one of the aims of the National Education Policy (NEP) is to promote learning in local languages.
G20 summit to be hosted by India in 2023
In 2023, India is to host the Group of 20 Summit, a year later than what was decided earlier. “We thank Saudi Arabia for hosting a successful Riyadh Summit and its contribution to the G20 process. We look forward to our next meetings in Italy in 2021, Indonesia in 2022, India in 2023 and Brazil in 2024,” mentioned a declaration of G20 Riyadh Summit leaders, which was issued at the end of the two-day conference of the world’s top 20 economies.
IMD issues orange alert to J&K: Plains witnessing rain and snowfall
An orange alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the higher reaches of J&K and Sonmarg-Zojila axis. The Valley has been witnessing rains and the upper reaches are observing snowfall, especially in north Kashmir since Sunday night. Light snowfall too was witnessed in the plains in the morning.
Headset designed by 25-year-old India-born listed in TIME’s 100 Best Inventions of 2020
25-year-old India-born Arnav Kapur’s AI-enabled headset which he co-designed, has been listed under TIME’s 100 Best Inventions of 2020. Arnav’s device, named AlterEgo, has secured a place in the list under the experimental category. This headset enables users to communicate with computers by thinking of instructions in their minds. The gadget displayed 92% accuracy in understanding people.
Disappearing messages feature of WhatsApp now live in India
Messaging app WhatsApp has rolled out it’s new ‘Disappearing Messages’ feature for users in India. On activating this feature, new messages sent on personal or group chat will disappear after seven days. For personal chats, either user can turn disappearing messages on or off. For group chats, only group admins have control over turning disappearing messages on or off.
Kumbh Mela to be held in 2021 despite COVID challenges: Uttarakhand CM
Trivendra Singh Rawat. Uttarakhand CM has informed that the Kumbh Mela will be held at Haridwar in 2021 regardless of the COVID-19 pandemic. He further added that the extent of the Kumbh Mela will depend on the COVID-19 situation at that time. Around 35-50 lakh people are expected to take part in the holy dip in Ganga daily during the mela.
Former Maha CM Fadnavis says, “Karachi will be part of India one day”
BJP leader and former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, commenting on Mumbai’s Karachi Sweets shop matter, said they believe in “Akhand Bharat”. He added, “We also believe that Karachi will be part of India one day.” This statement was followed after Shiv Sena worker Nitin Nandgaonkar demanded Karachi Sweets shop’s owner to drop the word ‘Karachi’ from the name for the reason that it is the name of a Pakistani city.
PM Modi to hold discussion with states tomorrow over the distribution of Covid-19 vaccine
A virtual meeting with chief ministers of states and union territories is most likely to be held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to take a follow up on the Covid-19 situation of the states. With four vaccine candidates in India being in their second or the third phase of clinical trials, the PM will also be discussing the vaccine distribution and emergency authorization with the states.
4 Indian-Americans Chosen As Rhodes Scholars From US Among 32 Others
Among the cohort of 32 students chosen from the US as Rhodes Scholars virtually, four Indian-Americans too are chosen in it. Those that won scholarships to the Oxford University in England form a diverse group that comprises of comprises immigrants and students of color. The granting of scholarship was announced by American Secretary of the Rhodes, Trust Elliot Gerson. The four Indian-American students that won the scholarship include Swathi R Srinivasan, Vijayasundaram Ramasamy, Garima P Desai and Savarni Sanka.
Bharti Singh and husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa get bail in drugs case
Comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa have been granted bail by a Special NDPS court in Mumbai in Drug Case PTI reported. The two were arrested by the On Narcotics Control Bureau drugs were seized from their house. NCB had recovered 86.5 gm Ganja during the raid.
