The concept originated in Belgium in 2006 when a communications agency joined hands with an amusement park to deploy a crane to make a child’s dream of a flying dinner table come true. The result was Dinner in the Sky which now serves as the venue for 22 young restaurant owners across Europe to showcase their skills.
How it’s done?
Guests, waiters and chefs are strapped into a harness and then the diners are seated at a long table. This is then lifted by a giant crane which is where the fun begins. While mid-air, chefs cook from a dedicated kitchen area live in the middle of the table and guests are free to order whatever they want, just as they would in any restaurant.
In its ten years of operations, Dinner in the Sky has spread to over 40 countries around the world and the trend shows no signs of slowing down. Putting a spin on the classic Dinner in the Sky, Lounge in the Sky has taken diners by storm. The platform allows guests to sip on a glass of wine, share a meal with loved ones while being entertained by live musicians and bands.
