Apple, one of the world’s biggest tech companies recently announced that it is completely powered by renewable, clean energy. It may sound shocking, generating 626 megawatts of clean energy annually, but it has come as a blessing to the planet.

With constant escalating development, greenhouse gas emissions have become inevitable, and it has had worsening effects on the planet and its ecosystem. Apple has taken a giant step towards protecting the earth and its atmosphere. Along with itself, Apple has also convinced many of its suppliers to run on clean energy.

Apple claims to have reduced its greenhouse emissions by 54% percent since 2011. Greenhouse gasses majorly comprise of CO2. These gasses are harmful to the earth as they trap the sun’s heat, and prevent it from escaping back into space. The heat trapped in the earth’s atmosphere leads to global warming, and the rise in temperature has negative effects on the environment. Cases of skin cancer have increased, and glaciers are melting at extremely high rates. Floods, earthquakes and many natural calamities have heat as a contributor. Apple’s selfless act is set to benefit the world.

Apple stores, offices and data centers spread across the world in large companies like US, UK, China and India have been equipped with solar panels which process solar energy into clean energy.

“We’re committed to leaving the world better than we found it. After years of hard work we’re proud to have reached this significant milestone,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.

Apple’s new plan will not only ameliorate the condition of the earth, but will also provide comfort to locals. The global, large scale influence of apple is no secret, and other big companies are soon to follow this commendable step taken by Apple to reduce greenhouse emissions.

Apart from protecting the earth, Apple has agreed to donate part of its revenue via the sales of its new iPhone RED to the Global Fund. The Global Fund is a foundation to battle one of the most dangerous diseases: AIDS. Apple partnered with RED, widely renowned for its charitable activities. Apple has contributed $160 million in helping them to cure AIDS.  Millions across the world have been cured, and the risk of the disease has reduced due to the philanthropic activities.

The huge, lasting impact created by Apple has helped millions of people across the globe, and will continue to do so in the future.
