“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.” – Edith Lovejoy Pierce
New Year brings us many opportunities to start working on ourselves, as we change calendars. These new beginnings can impact us in many positive ways, and to make sure that goes well- we even swear up on several resolutions to make that mark.
This new year, however, becomes more special as it marks the end of a decade. From the widening globalization in the world through the internet and social media circuits to the newly acquired meme culture, we have seen an innovative movement.
Keeping this in mind, here are some ideas that might inspire us to see differently into the new decade, and help us put a happy end to the marvelous years we have had.
1.Year in Pixels
What I mean by Year in Pixels, is exactly what summarising a year in pixel means!
Taking a complete round analysis could not have been easier. Marking all the dates of the year, and putting colour to the mood of the day, as it passes, allows a pretty sheet full of colours-summarizing the year mood and helps you truly understand your year.
What makes it more special is, we understand the value of a single day and how it impacts our year. It also explains to us how even a mood sometimes can last just 24 hours. After all, sometimes at the end of a bad day, this activity would remind you:
“A bad day does not mean a bad life”
2. Sleep Sheet
Although it may sound useless and pointless, but our sleep really matters more than we realise. Creating a monthly chart to counter your sleep issues could never be easier. Charting your sleep right from the beginning of the year helps you see how much you give time to your sleep period.
The best way to do this is to write numbers from 0-24 in horizontal lines and mark the hours you sleep in. And it might just promote better sleep hygiene once we realise how less we sleep!
3. Year Planners
People usually use the opportunity of New Year to set better targets and goals for the coming year. What a Year Planner does is, it helps you stay on track with your set goals and aids you in marking your achievements,
You can easily find a sample online. Nowadays, they even have the option of additional stickers, bookmarks, colourful pictures and easy usage factors in the premade ones. However, in my opinion, one should totally make their own by themselves; it makes it more special, personal and enhances your creative capabilities
4. Snap Photowall
This is a rather new idea and gets as close to a social media platform. It came recently in power to hold our memories closer than ever! What you could do in this is- create an extra account over Snapchat in relation to your already owned one and use it to send some memorable pictures each day. At the end of the year, you could simply login to the different account and boom- a perfect flashback to your year. Isn’t it exciting?
5. Capsule Concept
Although it is a very western concept, it can be used by us, if we cater to it wisely. Honestly, this is too cool not to do! In the Capsule Concept, all you have to do is
- Dugout a hole in the ground at a safe location
- Take a box, and put into it some precious things you’d wish to see next year
- Put it inside safely
- Do not open until next year!
Do you like these ideas? Did doing any of these make your year feel special?
