Yoga, why?

Yoga has always been one of the fascinating points in India. The practitioners have sought it for sustainment of physical, mental as well as spiritual health since 5th century BCE as per some of the records found. Yoga has been in the news for the past two years all the more as India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) for the concept of having an International Yoga Day. The day where over 177 member states of the UNGA did support the idea was December 11, 2015. The announcement came as a proud moment for the practitioners and supporters of yoga and for every Indian who felt yoga might have its inception but is all above religion. June 21, being suggested as the day, held importance for being the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere known as the Summer. The draft in the first year of its implementation shone bright globally winning massive celebrations across borders.

This year close to 72 teachers and students from City Montessori School, Lucknow will perform the Yoga at the United Nations Head-Quarters in New York, engulfing the moment of pride amongst the Indians back home. On the first International Yoga Day almost 36,000 people and the UNGA appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed 21 yoga asanas (postures) from 84 nations for half-an-hour at Rajpath in New Delhi.

To commemorate the Indian promoted day of International importance, the United Nations Headquarter building is in a row lit for the second time this year. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mr. Syed Akbaruddin tweeted “Yoga lights up @UN…Here’s a sneak peek of the iconic UN Headquarters building being lit up like never before for International Day of Yoga.”

Among the 180 other countries, China is set to line-up the second largest celebration of the International Yoga day. The model of celebration is also taken to a grander level by global giants like US, France, Japan, Pakistan, Singapore and Hungary.

Umeedo Ka Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh has something special.

The Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan is set to witness the PM of India alongside the Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh and the Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath parallel to the crowd from different walks of life amounting to over half-a-lakh performing in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. There have even been notices of the state’s department for holding training sessions for over 92000 prison inmates who will perform in their respective alignments along with the whole world on June 21.

UP Minister of State for Jails Mr. Jai Kumar Singh Jaiki was reported saying, “The main motive behind is that by undertaking regular Yoga, jail inmates will remain medically fit, and it will also inculcate a dose of positivity in their mindset.”

A great number of 200 farmers of Prataphgarh have planned a session of Yoga together. ”A television will be installed at the programme venue so that the farmers can not only follow the Aasans being performed, but also seek inspiration from the Prime Minister,” said Janki Sharan Pandey, the event organiser.

The Yoga day has received backlash from quite a few religious groups who have been tallying every aspect metering religion in it. Though the inception and progression is from the Yogic Era, Yoga has evolved being a religion within itself not adhering to any religion as such. The followers of this do not make it mandatory for you to chant “Om”, it having connections to the Hindu religious texts. One just needs to practice using any sound that induces vibration in the vocals be it ‘Om’ or ‘Aamin’, to feel the sensation of how nature has nothing still but everything in a vibration mode.
