The process of job searching is quite difficult despite the fact that there are many platforms, online and offline that serve as a medium to make the process of a job search easier. This is because many people don’t know the available platforms and opportunities they can use to look for a job when in need. This is common, considering that when we’re looking for a job, we’re quite stressed out and need quick results. I hate to break it to you but the job search process isn’t ever a quick one, sometimes it may take months or even years to get a job that you’re satisfied with.

Whether you’re looking for a job fresh out of college or you’ve just quit your job and need a new start, one has to know where to start with their job search, and once they do find the appropriate platform, it is also vital to know what to do after. So, here are a few ways you can find a job that’s right for you.

Effectively Use Social Media

Social media platforms are a significant first step in a job search, especially for a fresher looking to enter a field. Not only do many companies constantly update job postings and requirements, but keeping track of their social media also helps in understanding the company and how they operate.

LinkedIn is also a great platform to showcase your skill sets for potential employers to see. You can apply to various jobs and the response rate is also decent.

Contact Companies Directly

Even when you apply for a job posting on LinkedIn, make sure you email the company and send your CV and/or cover letter via email as well. This certainly increases your chances of being considered, and the company is more likely to find your profile if you send it through both platforms.

Companies have their contact information available on their websites, and you can contact them to find out whether they’re offering any jobs relevant to your qualifications and experience. If you’ve already applied, you can also contact them to get updates about the job posting,

Go To Job Fairs

Job fairs or career fairs are the perfect places for your job search. It is an event that gives you a chance to connect and network with people and potential employers. You will find companies and organizations of all sizes looking for a variety of qualifications.

Make sure you carry multiple copies of your resume with you, work samples if necessary, and do plenty of research about the companies that will be at the fair and the ones you’re specifically targeting. In the following week after the job fair, you should also follow up with the companies that you talked to and applied to.

Job Search Platforms Are Your Go-To

Job search platforms do work, trust me. These platforms allow you to quickly apply for many jobs, effectively and efficiently. Most job search engines allow you to filter jobs by location, type, wage etc. You can use keywords relevant to your job profile and find many available postings accordingly.

Emailing companies after applying through these platforms is also helpful, If not, these platforms have sections that give constant updates on your application so that you can track the status.

Ask Friends and Existing Networks

Last but not the least, asking existing networks to send referrals is never a bad idea. Friends who are in the same field can also help a lot. Mutual career contacts are very helpful when looking for a job and this also helps in maintaining these relationships for the future.

Make a list of all your relevant contacts and get in touch with them regarding referrals. Some job postings get filled very quickly, so you have to be strategic with who you contact and seek help from.

These are only a few ways to help your job search process, a lot of it is trial and error but there will always be a result in the end. Don’t be disheartened during the process; do your best with as much as you can.
