Every once in a while, a new technology, an old problem, and a big idea turn into an innovation. The advent of technology has emanated a platform for the youth to use their imagination and creativity to augment innovative solutions to complex real-life problems existing in the society. Hackathons are software programming competitions wherein computer programmers compete to design the most efficient application or webpage as directed by certain predefined problem statements.

One of the most distinguished and recognised Hackathon that takes place in the city is ‘CodeShastra’. It is a 24-hour Hackathon organised by DJCSI, the official CSI student chapter of Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai.CodeShastra is one of the oldest and most reputed hackathons organised in Mumbai with a footfall of more than 400 aspiring programmers from numerous colleges across the city, in teams of 2 to 4 each. The competition goes on for 24 hours straight, with ignited minds giving it everything to create a coherent application or web service that would be of utility for society. With judges like Ajit Joshi (CSI Mumbai secretary), Neeta Khare (TCS global technology head), AtulGandre (TCS global technology head), HiloniPunatar (founder of ThinkDigital) present for the 2018 edition, the CodeShastra name has become associated with head honchos of the technical sector.

Dr. Hari Vasudevan, the Principal of D. J. Sanghvi COE, says “ The CSI chapter of our college has always taken many initiatives to help the students gain exposure beyond their regular academic curriculum. I strongly believe that the technical outcome of the event will contribute to solving many of the techno- commercial problems faced by the industry and I encourage students who are looking for a unique platform to showcase their technical skills and innovativeness to participate in the same. I wish the DJ-CSI committee and participants of CodeShastra all the very best for the success of the hackathon.”

With an objective to captivate and enrapture the participants within its realm of learning and opportunities, CodeShastra5.0 will be conducted on 2nd – 3rd March 2019 and the theme this year will be FinTech.
