Like every other year, the SIH or Smart India Hackathon 2022 has commenced. On 25th August, The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati successfully hosted the grand finale of SIH. The Hackathon is being conducted in two formats including SIH Software edition and SIH Hardware edition. While the hardware edition’s grand finale is scheduled to take place between August 25 to 29, the software edition’s grand finale will be held on August 25 and 26.
Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi also interacted virtually with the participants as well as the students during the inaugural event. He has been interacting with the students annually during the event, since its inception. The Prime Minister congratulated the participants for the various innovations they submitted and wished them all the luck.
This year, SIH 2022 has a total of 476 problem statements to offer from 62 organizations. The problem statement providers most commonly comprise the Ministry of Finance and Cyber Crime Unit, Special Cell, Delhi Police, and MHA among many others. A total of 2033 winner teams comprising more than 15000 students qualified for the Smart India Hackathon 2022. They will be participating in this year’s SIH grand finale at the national level.
The qualified teams will work on the problem statements during the grand finale of SIH 2022 at the assigned nodal centre. The winning amount of each problem statement is Rs 1 lakh. Three prizes of Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 75000, and Rs. 50000 will be provided to the winning teams under the student innovation category.
What is SIH or Smart India Hackathon?
It is a nationwide initiative that provides students of India with a platform to develop innovative solutions for pressing problems of society, organizations, and government. SIH aims to foster a culture of product innovation, and problem-solving and encourages out-of-the-box thinking among students.
The Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, All India Council for Technical Education, Persistent Systems, and i4c have jointly organized Smart India Hackathon 2022. The event’s media partners for 2022 are Doordarshan and All India Radio and sponsoring partners are Shell and AWS. SIH is recognised as the world’s largest open innovation model. 2017 marks the SIH’s year of inception and has been conducted annually since then.
Since its inception, SIH has seen the number of participants as well as problem statement providers only growing. Considering the initiative’s growth, this year SIH has also begun Smart India Hackathon to encourage school students to innovate and develop a problem-solving attitude at an early age.
Year after year, SIH has been impacting a large number of Indian students helping them to improve, and test their educational learnings in real-world problem-solving. It is also heavily contributing to encouraging the students to take interest in Innovation and entrepreneurship.
