On 22nd September 2022, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi launched a recruitment drive- Rozgar Mela for 10 lakh personnel. This drive was launched with the aim of fulfilling the government’s promises towards its citizens of providing employment opportunities.
The drive was launched through video conferencing by the PM. A total of 75,000 newly inducted appointees were offered appointment letters. During the distribution, PM Modi said, “Rozgar Mela to recruit 10 lakh people is an important milestone in the government’s efforts for employment and self-employment in the last eight years.”
Today, India is the fifth largest economy in the world. This said it is a breeding ground for many companies to set up, as well as expand their business on the Indian land. Now, the government is working towards expanding sectors such as manufacturing and tourism, undertaking larger development projects as these hold a high capacity of generating employment for people.
PM Modi mentioned that despite many economies facing issues of inflation and unemployment, India became the 5th largest economy in the last eight years jumping from the 10th position to the 5th. It has all been possible due to the collective cooperation of the Indian citizens.
Under the new recruitment drive, new recruits will be appointed from across the country and will join 38 Ministries/Departments of the Government of India.
The union government is carrying out the recruitment process in Mission Mode. The ministries and departments will either recruit individuals by themselves or through recruiting agencies such as UPSC, SSC, and Railway Recruitment Board. For recruitment to be effective and speedy, the selection processes were simplified and made tech-enabled.
Citing an official statement, the Indian news agency PTI reported that, Fifty Union ministers will be given the responsibility to distribute appointment letters to over 20,000 people at different locations across India under the Rozgar Mela. The posts which are being assigned to the new recruits involve Central Armed Force Personnel, Sub Inspector, Constable, LDC, Steno, PA, Income Tax Inspectors, and MTS, among others.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the departments to fill the vacancies by 2023.
During the launch, the Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar offered appointment letters to the selected youth in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, where the event was conducted.
