Jammu is all set to get their first IIM (Indian Institute of Management) after the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the same. The premier management institution will begin operations at a temporary campus at the Old Government College of Engineering and Technology. The institute will operate out of this campus for the initial four years during which work will progress on setting up an IIM campus at Jammu and an out-campus in Kashmir.

The project is said to cost approximately Rs 61.9 crore and is the 20th IIM in the country. This academic year, IIM Jammu has a student intake of 54 students for the Post Graduate Diploma Programme (PGDP) in Management. The number is said to slowly progress upwards to 120 by their fourth year of operations. Sources say that these four years will be used to set up both campuses in Jammu and the other in Kashmir. Sources also stated that the Detailed Project Report for the permanent campuses was under preparation and thereafter the process for setting up campuses would begin.

Breaking the news on social media, the PMO’s official twitter handle tweeted- The IIM coupled with IIT at Jammu, modernization of NIT Srinagae & opening of 2 new AIIMS, one each in Kashmir region & Jammu region would go a long way in meeting the requirement of high quality living and education in Jammu & Kashmir.
