Come December, the 16-acre campus of the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, a premier engineering institute and one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia, transforms into a hub of sporting activity.
The annual sports festival ‘Enthusia’ organized by the VJTI Gymkhana is one of the biggest inter-collegiate sports festivals in Maharashtra. It aims at propagating the spirit of sportsmanship and emphasizes on the virtues of teamwork & harmony. A national level sports festival, Enthusia provides the much needed platform for students across the nation to compete with one another, which sets the tone for passionate performances, giving rise to nail-biting encounters that leaves the audience spell-bound.
Enthusia 2016, is scheduled to be held at the VJTI campus at Matunga, Mumbai from 3rd December to 14th December. VJTI prides on its fantastic sports facilities such as a cricket ground, football ground, basketball court, tennis clay courts, badminton court, table tennis facilities and loads more.
The students of VJTI participate in a highly competitive inter-department tournament wherein the 10 departments within the VJTI campus compete across 18 sports events. These sporting events including outer events such as athletics, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, dodge-ball, throw-ball, rink football and tennis; as well as indoor events like table-tennis, badminton, swimming, chess and carrom.
This year will also see the launch of the prestigious Enthusia College Cup which will be awarded to the best college based on their performance across various inter-college events in athletics, football, basketball, rink football, table tennis, throw-ball and volleyball. Colleges across India will be participating in this championship. The inter-college sports events would not only promote competition and sportsmanship but also foster a spirit of co-operation amongst students from varied institutions and disciplines.
VJTI’s Director Dr.O.G.Kakde said, “Participation in sporting activities helps in promoting health, fitness and mental well-being thus enabling students to better cope with the challenges of academics, exams and peer pressures.”
The popular Enthusia Marathon is an annual event which will take place on 4th December 2016. Enthusia organises 5K and 10K marathons, which see wide participation of people across all age groups who run for a wide range of charitable causes thus raising money for social welfare as well as promoting the message of a clean and healthy social life.
Another hugely successful event, which has witnessed massive participation and support, is the Cyclothon that aims at creating awareness about cycling as a means of improving fitness. This event is will take place on 11th December 2016, and is also open to all age groups. Participants are provided with the cycles to take part in the event.

The most heart warming programme at Enthusia is the sports day for underprivileged children where students from many municipal schools are invited to participate in sporting events across various disciplines. Distribution of prizes and goodies along with hearty refreshments makes it a fun day for the children.
