To ensure everyone receives vaccine, multiple IDs will be used: Govt

Besides the unique digital health ID, there will be other IDs to ensure everyone has received the vaccine. The digital health ID will also ensure immunisation. Most probably, there will be a COVID-19 vaccination drive expected next year in February. They are most likely to remove plasma therapy now.

A 14 member panel has been set up to decide changes in lieu of the new academic policy. It  will be headed by Dr Sukhadeo Thorat, former chairperson of UGC. They will receive various suggestions from public and student representatives. It was mentioned that schools and colleges are having difficulties in implementing the provisions under the Act. 

Bills to block Centre’s farm laws passed in Punjab

On Tuesday, the Punjab assembly passed four bills and a resolution to counter the three agriculture marketing laws enacted by the union government. The state assembly assured the farmers of safeguarding their interest and that the farmers won’t be deprived from MSPs. After a discussion that lasted for 5 and a half hours, the four farm bills to counter the agricultural marketing laws were unanimously passed by the ruling Congress Party and the opposition parties. 

Former US President Obama to hold first in-person event for Biden

Barack Obama is soon to hold his first in-person campaign event with Joe Biden, the US Presidential candidate. The event is going to be conducted with the presence of a small crowd in a drive-in rally who will listen to Obama via radio in their cars. As someone who has worked with Biden, Obama will be a great asset. These social distancing rallies are in stark contrast to the ones being held by Donald Trump. 

Singapore develops breath test that shows COVID results in a minute

A breath test has been developed by researchers in Singapore. It can detect the virus within a minute. It has more than 90% accuracy. A person will only have to blow into a disposable mouthpiece which is attached to the breath sampler. There is no possibility of cross contamination. 

Kerala govt plans on inaugurating 22 tourism projects

The government of Kerala will inaugurate 22 tourism projects on October 22. On Monday they reopened several tourist spots except the ones in containment zones. They expect tourism footfall to increase in hills and backwaters. These are part of the 100 day action plan of the government to increase socio-economic activity of the state.

Facebook to use AI to predict COVID-19 infections

Facebook published a paper, which stated how AI could help predict the spread of coronavirus. The system will predict the number of cases two wells in advance. They hope that this will help people to prepare themselves and take measures. They hope to introduce it to other countries also. 

IRDAI sets up panel to look into cyber insurance

With the recent increase in online methods, IRDAI has set up a panel to examine the needs of a standard cyber liability insurance product. They will take into account recent cybersecurity incidents and devise insurance coverage strategies for the same. It is a nine-member panel. They will submit their report in two months.
