Before you can start applying to these internships, it is important you know more about them.
The Rajya Sabha in 2009 came up with a Rajya Sabha Research and Study Scheme also known as the RSRS Scheme that has three main components:
- Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Chair
- Rajya Sabha Fellowships
- Rajya Sabha Student Engagement Internships
This scheme was introduced with the aim to promote research studies revolving around the functioning of the Indian Parliament and other democratic institutions and study the role they play in the country’s socio-economic transformation; to ensure that the researches carried out help in improving the functioning of Parliament; and to boost dynamic engagement with academic and research institutions in the field of parliamentary/constitutional studies, development studies, public governance, legal studies, etc.
The Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Chair is a position that requires an expert or eminent researcher carrying a proven record of researches undertaking by them or scholarship and publications in the arena of the political system, democratic institutions and socio-economic challenges facing the nation. This post is available for a period of 2 years and is extendable up to one year. Those holding a Ph.D. in the area relevant to the subject of study are eligible to apply for the chair.
The Rajya Sabha Fellowship is open for scholars or experts holding relevant educational qualifications and experience for undertaking the study in line with the objective of the Scheme. Those falling between the age group of 25-65 years are eligible to apply for this fellowship. These individuals must hold at least a Master’s degree in social science, law and other such related disciplines falling in line with the subject of study. The duration of this fellowship is of 18 months and extendable up to six months. Under this, the fellows will be entitled to receive a grant of Rs 8 lakh plus Rs 50,000 as a contingency grant.
Rajya Sabha Student Engagement Summer Internships are specially designed for those pursuing graduation or post-graduation in any field to enhance their knowledge and understanding of different procedural aspects of the functioning of the Indian Parliament, especially the Rajya Sabha. These internships are offered during student’s summer vacation are also paid. The minimum stipend of these internships is Rs 10,000 per month. A total of ten summer internships are offered five each for the Graduate and Post-Graduate applicants. The duration of these summer internships is two months. On completion of the internship, interns will also receive a certificate acknowledging the same.
