1. Bhawana Kanth, India’s first woman fighter pilot to participate in the Republic Day parade
Bhawana Kanth, India’s Flight lieutenant is all set to become the country’s first woman fighter pilot to participate in the Republic Day parade. Bhawana will be a part of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF’s) tableau that is going to demonstrate mock-ups of the light combat aircraft, light combat helicopter and the Sukhoi-30 fighter plane. Bhawana flies the is the MiG-21 Bison fighter plane and is currently posted at an airbase in Rajasthan.
2. All-party meeting likely to be held PM Modi on Jan 30 over Budget session
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to chair the customary all-party meet on January 30 where his government will put forth its legislative agenda for the approaching Budget session. An invitation for attending the virtual meeting has been sent to all the parties, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said. The Budget session of Parliament will begin on January 29.
3. Punjab records the first case of bird flu, starts culling process
Punjab has recorded its first bird flu infection today. The chief secretary of Punjab, Vini Mahajan said, “NIHSAD Bhopal confirmed the samples sent from two poultry farms at Mohali as positive cases of bird flu.” “As a preventive measure, the animal husbandry department has started the process of culling with all precautions. Surveillance and sampling have been stepped up,” the secretary added.
4. Ahead of Republic Day tractor rally, Farmer unions decide to meet Delhi Police
A group of farmer union leaders is going to meet the Delhi, Haryana, and UP police ahead of the Republic Day tractor rally, to discuss the route and arrangements for the rally. “We’ve told them that we’ll hold the march at Ring Road and they should accept it,” Gurnam Singh Chaduni, a member of the Bharatiya Kisan Union said.
5. Maharashtra plans to carry out a drive to improve COVID-19 vaccination numbers
Health Minister of Maharashtra, Rajesh Tope announced that the state will be launching an information, education and communication (IEC) drive to guide the health care workers about the COVID-19 vaccines. The minister also added, “It is true that all the health care workers enrolled are not coming up for the vaccination, but we should not go into the percentage of the turnout.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has lauded and congratulated the Delhi Police saying, “The Delhi Police passed all tests that came it’s way, like the pandemic, the northeast Delhi riots, lockdown, lifting of lockdown”. He said this while addressing a gathering at Delhi Police Headquarters.
7. Sensors installed at Delhi airport at T3 to ensure social distancing norms are followed
Sensors have been installed at entry and departure gates, security checkpoints, and emigration and immigration areas of T3 of the Delhi Airport by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) to ensure social distancing. This new system put in place will be generating a passenger density map and alert ground staff if it exceeds a particular level. DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said that this arrangement is the first-of-its-kind in the country.
8. Gujarat government renames Dragon fruit as ‘Kamalam’
Just like most of the places in India, the dragon fruit too has been remanded by the Gujarat government as ‘Kamalam’, which means lotus in Sanskrit, The Chief Minister of the state, Vijay Rupani said, “The word ‘dragon’ is not graceful and people associate it with China. The outer shape of the fruit resembles a lotus.” As per the media records, it was the farmers in Gujarat’s Kutch district that had requested the remaining of the fruit.
9. After receiving legal threat from BJP leader, Tandav director to implement changes
Ali Abbas Zafar, director of the newly released Amazon original series,’ Tandav’ has rolled out a statement, declaring that the crew has chosen to make certain changes to the web series “to address the concerns raised towards the same”. “We thank the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for the guidance & support in the matter,” the director said.
