Bennett Nathan, a BMM student, reminisces about chilhood games, carefree moments and the girl next door

In Retrospect!

They’re still etched in memory,
The times when we were still so young
Dancing in the rain water, playing in the mud
Watching cartoons on the TV and sprawling under the sun.
Lollipops and candy floss
Oh, how we loved those!
Running races and hopscotch
and countless other games.
Punching, biting and hair pulling,
Couldn’t go a week without fighting,
But then the usual hug and peck
would set everything right in its place.
Chasing cats and scaring away dogs
our favourite pastimes were many
beating you at studies
the feeling was so pretty
It seems like only yesterday when I took you on a ride on my two seater bicycle
and here we are today, training wheels in the air, learning to ride life’s bicycle.

I still remember how you occupied most of the space on my couch,
but look how you’ve grown up
Low waist jeans, eye liner and accessories adorning your slim body
You look gorgeous and still naughty
But I don’t know why it’s just a distant smile now when you greet me
We’re still friends, you know, even if we don’t play under the banyan tree
Why won’t you be free?
‘Cause even if we talk no more
you’ll always be my girl next door.
The old times have passed
and we call ourselves grownups
Yet today, all i want to do is call you out to play
won’t you come?
For we’re still so young…..
