An expert committee set up by the Medical Council of India (MCI) has proposed a single-entrance test, known as the National eligibility- cum-entrance test (NEET) for admission to all MBBS courses across India from 2012. The committee has also offered a number of recommendations such as the removal of negative marking in the exam, which generally resulted in low scores by entrance exam applicants. Yet another recommendation states that the exam should comprise objective-type questions, while another suggests the use of a percentile score to determine the merit of all applicants. The Medical Council is also working towards lowering the cut-offs for MBBS admissions.
