1. Babri Masjid demolition case verdict out, all 32 accused acquitted

The special CBI court stated that the Babri Masjid demolition was not pre-planned. Last year, the Supreme Court granted permission on the same site for the construction of a Ram temple. Their verdict also deemed the demolition of the mosque as an illegal act. On the ground of lack of evidence, all the 32 accused involving LK Advani, Uma Bharti, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Vinay Katiyar were acquitted. 

2. UP CM Yogi Adityanath forms SIT, fast-track court to hear Hathras gangrape case

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case of the 19-year-old woman who was raped and murdered by four men in UP. He has asked the team, which consists of three people, to submit a report within 7 days. The fast track court will then conduct a hearing and investigate the case further. 

3. Private schools in Odisha settle for fee waiver

The High Court suggested a maximum waiver of 26% if the annual fee is above 1 lakh. This will not be applicable to institutions that have not had a fee raise for the past two years and those institutions whose fees are less than Rs. 6000. 

4. G20 Summit to be held virtually this year

Saudi Arabia announced that the G20 leaders’ summit will be held virtually on November 21-22. They will discuss ways to safeguard lives and restore growth in the ongoing pandemic. According to a statement, the G20 has contributed to about $21 billion for vaccines and therapeutics.

3 underground lakes surrounding a main salty lake have been discovered on Mars. Scientists believe this is a huge discovery as it could be a potential habitat for life. However, research is still being conducted. 

6. CSMT to get flap gates with QR code scanners

By the end of October, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus will have flap gates for automatic entry and QR code scanners at the entry to check tickets and reduce physical contact. Access will be granted to passengers only after they scan their ticket and do a temperature screening. 

7. Schools in Andhra Pradesh will reopen from November 2

CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that schools will reopen from November 2. The decision to reopen them from October 5 was dismissed. Kits will be distributed among the students on October 5. It will contain material to make three pairs of uniforms, textbooks, notebooks, socks, a belt, and a school bag. 

8. Palghar district needs to remain alert for possible spread of Congo fever

Authorities have been asked to remain alert for a possible spread of Congo fever. Congo fever spreads in humans through ticks. The fever has been found in some districts of Gujarat and there are chances of it spreading in Maharashtra borders. There is no vaccine available for Congo fever.

9. The ruler of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, passed away.

After ruling for 14 years, the Emir of Kuwait passed away at the age of 91. His brother, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah will now take over. In June he had undergone an unspecified surgery. 

10. SRH defeat DC and register their first lose in IPL 2020
