MindSpark'26, the flagship technical fest of COEP Technological University, returns on 3rd and 4th October, marking its 20th edition. Over two decades, it has grown into one of Maharashtra's largest technical fests and a prominent national platform for technology, innovation, and knowledge exchange. Every year, it draws a footfall of over 40,000 people across more than 30 events, making it one of the most anticipated gatherings for young engineers and technology enthusiasts in the region.
The fest belongs to an institution with deep engineering roots. Established in 1854, COEP is the third oldest engineering education institute in India. MindSpark'26 arrives as the flagship celebration of that legacy, with two decades of the fest itself now unfolding on grounds that have shaped engineering education in the country for over 170 years.
MindSpark was built on a simple belief that students learn best when they are given the chance to experiment, compete, and collaborate. Over the years, the fest has encouraged participants to move beyond conventional learning and engage with technology through direct experience. It brings together technical competitions, exhibitions, workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions, and interactive experiences. Together, these give participants the space to explore emerging technologies well beyond what a classroom can offer.
The 20th edition extends this spirit further through Ideathon, a platform designed for engineering students who wish to take their ideas beyond the classroom and turn them into real, workable solutions. It reflects the fest's conviction that ideas matter most when they are built, tested, and put to use.
This year's theme, "Infinite Continuum," is inspired by humanity's pursuit of exploration, perseverance, and discovery. Its central image is Voyager 1, the probe that NASA launched on 5th September 1977. Voyager 1 visited Jupiter and Saturn, and in 2012 it became the first spacecraft to cross into interstellar space. More than 48 years after its launch, it continues to send back scientific data from beyond the Sun's protective bubble, known as the heliosphere.
Voyager 1 is now approaching a milestone that no human-made object has ever reached. On 18th November 2026, NASA expects the probe to be one light-day away from Earth, a distance of roughly 26 billion kilometres. At that distance, a signal travelling at the speed of light takes a full 24 hours to reach the spacecraft, which means a message sent on one morning would only receive its reply two days later.
For MindSpark'26, Voyager is a symbol of curiosity that knows no boundary. It is a machine built with the technology of the 1970s that has kept working, kept exploring, and kept teaching us long after anyone expected it to. It reflects the same spirit of continuous exploration that has carried MindSpark through two decades.
Across the fest's leadership, one belief holds constant: technology and creativity flourish when they are given the room to collide. Technical Secretary Mr Siddharth Pundale sees the fest as fertile ground for bold ideas, a place where students can turn untested thinking into practice. Faculty Advisor Dr Radhika D. Joshi views it as a space where learning extends past the classroom to shape future contributors to the nation. Dr M. P. Khond, Director of the Board of Students' Development, calls it an unmatched platform for sharpening technical skills.
That vision rests on steady support from the top. Vice Chancellor Prof. Sunil Bhirud's belief in MindSpark as a catalyst for innovation has helped shape its ambition over the years, while Registrar Dr D. N. Sonawane's guidance has instilled the discipline that turns students into responsible professionals. The MindSpark'26 team remains grateful to both for their continued support.
The fest will feature flagship events such as the 24-hour Hackathon, where teams race through a full day and night of building. Robotica will put student-built machines to the test, while the Drone Races will bring speed and precision to the skies. The Tech Expo, Bike Expo, and Auto Expo will showcase innovation across technology, two-wheelers, and automobiles, and Genius Junior will welcome younger students into the world of science and technology. Alongside these, visitors can look forward to virtual robotics project presentations, gaming experiences, keynote sessions, and exhibitions driven by technology.
The 20th edition celebrates two decades of curiosity, creation, and technological exploration, while offering a platform for the ideas and innovators shaping what comes next. Many who once walked into MindSpark as curious first-time visitors now return as organisers, mentors, and professionals. That, perhaps, is the fest's truest legacy: a continuum of people, each generation building on the one before it.
