Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar has been selected for the U-19 team which is set to tour Sri Lanka in July. The team is set to play two four-day matches and five ODIs.

Arjun was only selected for the two four-day matches. The son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar was unable to make the cut for the ODI matches. The 18-year-old had attended the under-19 camp held in Dharamsala. He has also represented India in the U-14 and U-16 formats of the game.

He was also successful in the Cooch Behar Trophy where he picked up 18 wickets in five games. However, he underperformed when it came to the bat. Arjun is looking to come out of the shadow of his father, who the media keep comparing him to. He wants to be known for being who he is rather than just the son of Sachin Tendulkar. At one point, his father even had to intervene as the media’s comparison was affecting him.

Arjun also gained popularity when he hit 48 off just 27 balls when participating in Spirit of Cricket Global Challenge in Australia. He also is working on his bowling action to participate in more competitive formats of the game like the T20.

Arjun has also been travelling with team India sometimes and bowling in the nets. Last year, he bowled in the nets to the English team who were struggling to make contact as he bowled in good angles and pace. English cricketer Jonny Bairstow had to even temporarily leave the nets as Arjun’s yorker hit his toes and he was nearly injured.

In the U-19 tour of Sri Lanka Anuj Rawat would be heading the four-day side and Aryan Juyal has been named skipper for the ODIs. The match will be very important for Arjun as if he performs well, the Indian cricket team could be looking at a new Tendulkar in the nets with them.
