Just like fashion, trends go in and out of vogue and some things stop being cool pretty fast. The bathroom is certainly no different, as there are many trends in the home that have had their time and need to vanish straight away.

To help you ensure that your bathroom is as trendy as possible, we’ve made a list of all the design concepts that are quickly going out of style. We all want affordable home décor ideas, so read on to discover what’s cool and what’s not in the bathroom.

The all-white bathroom paint

While it’s definitely been a staple colour of any bathroom for decades, the all-white paint needs to stop. It’s a safe option and is too boring for a home that needs some excitement.

Pale green or light blue are trending options nowadays, and covering one wall with an exotic wallpaper is one of the best ideas we’ve heard of in ages.

Opulent décor

The days of chandeliers, gilded mirrors, and fancy artwork on the walls are long gone. Instead, homeowners are preferring minimalist, relaxing bathrooms that won’t look out of place in the future.

One elaborate vanity is enough, especially if it’s reclaimed wood, and LED backlit mirrors with defogging features are great ways to achieve a modern bathroom.

Standard chrome fixtures

We all know chrome as the finish for bathroom taps and showerheads, but it’s time to mix things up a bit. Chrome is a sturdy and solid option, of course, but there’s a big shift toward more interesting options such as matte black or copper for the bathroom.

These finishes for taps and showerheads are really trending at the moment and for anyone thinking of selling, it’s a fantastic magnet for buyers.

Bathtubs

For smaller bathrooms, especially, bathtubs just take up so much space. If your household simply doesn’t use the bathtub, then why bother having it there at all? Whether it’s extending the shower area or simply having more free space in the bathroom, an unused bathtub can be removed easily enough.

Single showerhead

Having more choice is always great in any bathroom, and you’d be surprised that the humble showerhead can also be updated. A rainshower head as the primary focus is a good start, but many models are now fitted with a secondary hand shower for more flexibility.

Overhead electric lighting

Bright, overhead lighting in the bathroom is so passé nowadays. People want as much natural lighting as possible, which is why it’s popular to install a skylight to achieve maximum brightness. While it’s still necessary to have an overhead light, it should be on a dimmer switch so you don’t always have bright light dazzling you at night.

Wasting water

It was never exactly a trend to waste water, but it’s something that needs to be stopped at any rate. Water conservation isn’t just important in your local area, but the entire world. We all need to do our part, and starting in the bathroom is a good place.

For one, you could install a toilet with a dual flush system, which means you can lower the amount of water needed for every flush. Many showerheads can also be altered to reduce the amount of water flow, plus, taps with a sensor are a great way to prevent waste.
