Creative inspiration has long been associated with the magical hours of the night, as the ambers burn and the world stays still, the artist awakens to a sense of astonishing possibility. It is a dazzling gift that often comes from a strange and mysterious source, the nocturnal nature of the stimulus allows the creator to infuse that magic into tangible beauty. From ancient times, that ‘Source’ has mainly been personified as Female – the Muse, propelling scholars, artists, poets and painters to the highest levels of artistic creativity leaving in her wake the most awe-inspiring result.
Arpita Mehta’s Winter/Festive 2017 collection “Midnight Muse” is a sensuous yet festive affair inspired by the love and longing for the dark night. The designer, who started her own label in 2007, has come a long way since her debut at Lakme India Fashion Week W/F 2013 and has created a reputed name for herself in the industry. Her very first collection “The Violet Garden” got her great reviews as well as commercial success. Her second and third collections, “Paradiso” at the Summer/Resort and “Starlight” at the Winter/Festive, was an instant hit as well.
Kriti Sanon took to the ramp looking pretty in a midnight blue high-waisted lehenga with lotus thread and small cutdana embroidery highlighted with 3D mirror and thread work. This was teamed with a tiny lotus and cutdana blouse and a long ruffle trail dupatta added to the contemporary yet modern and sophisticated theme to the collection
Arpita Mehta’s Winter/Festive 2017 collection “Midnight Muse” is a sensuous yet festive affair inspired by the love and longing for the dark night. The clothes are reflective of the mood as they come to life in thick tones of navy blue, magenta, olive green and rose. Soft fluid fabrics housed within bold structured formats show the conflicting yet compromising mood of the collection, blending both thoughts beautifully together.
The use of Silk Chiffon, Tabi silk and Georgette adds a feminine touch to the whimsical world of the pret pieces. The lotus flower is a central theme that runs throughout the collection, subtly revealing itself in printed capes or thread work embroidered jackets. 3D Appliqué and sequined birds make for a unique addition, as they fly over fields of flowers beautifully designed on the lehenga skirts.
The collection is a modern twist on the traditional Indian clothing as the silhouettes take the form of slip dresses, sharp structured jackets, pleated pallazo pants, crop top sets and ruffle floral lehengas. With the upcoming festive season right around the corner, the clothes make for an integral part of the wardrobe of the bold and confident woman who is ready to step out and make the night her own!
