After winning the match, when the media approached her, she said “I lost in the last two finals and this win was very important for me. I want to thank the crowd for supporting me every time. I won for my country and I am very proud to be an Indian. A big thanks to my coach Miss Kim and Gopi sir and the entire support staff. I also want to dedicate this to my parents and especially my mom, it’s her birthday today. So, happy birthday mom.”, reports News 18.

In 2017 too, PV Sindhu had reached the finals against Nozomi Okuhara. During this match, which lasted for two hours and involved a 73-shot rally, Okuhara had emerged victorious. In 2018, again when Sindhu reached the finals, she lost against Carolina Marin of Spain. However, this time she turned the tables and shot herself to a historic victory.

PV Sindhu, after facing defeat for two consecutive years in the finals, seems to have taken the challenge to defeat defeat and bring home a medal she must have dreamed of the winner since years. Thus in this year’s final match, PV Sindhu thrashed Nozomi Okuhara 21-7 21-7, one of the most lopsided final match ever in the badminton world championship.

Her victory attracted lauds and praises from the entire nation. The Prime Minister’s chest also beamed wide after learning of her “stupendous” victory. Through his tweet, PM Narendra Modi congratulated her.

Further, President Ram Nath Kovind too felt proud of this young Indian daughter. He too expressed his feeling of pride and congratulated her via his tweet.

Screaming the joys of victory, PV Sindhu wore the gold medal as if the most beautiful jewel placed around her neck. With this victory and the medal that PV Sindhu brought home, the nation is stirred up with emotions of joy and absolute pride.
