Tinder rolled out a new feature in which women in India have the choice to initiate conversations with their matches. The feature was introduced in the form of an opt-in setting called ‘My Moves’, which will be available to iOS users.

Until now, the app allowed both men and women to make the first move after a mutual market. The Indian market is the first one to have been introduced to such a feature. The setting was announced earlier this year but had been in test mode since.

“By giving our female users the ability to exclusively send the first message if and when they want to, ‘My Move’ provides women the autonomy to choose how to engage with their matches and empowers them to control their experiences,” said Taru Kapoor, General Manager, Tinder, in a statement.

According to reports, Tinder recorded 7.5 million daily swipes in India alone, with its female users being much more active than their male counterparts.

This new move is reportedly a page out of their rival Bumble’s book, whose female users are already allowed to initiate conversations as they please.
