For the first time ever, movie fanatics can walk into any cinema of their choice and watch a movie for just Rs 75. In an initiative by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI), on September 23, 2022, National Cinema Day will be celebrated.

This Friday, over 4000 silver screens across India will participate in this initiative and offer tickets for only Rs 75. There will also be ‘special surprises’ for the moviegoers in celebration of this occasion. The participating cinema chains include INOX, PVR, Cineapolis, Miraj, Carnival, Asian, City Pride, Mukta A2, Movietime, Wave, M2K, Delite, and many more. Some major blockbusters that are likely to be screened for the day will be, Bhool Bhulaiyya 2, KGF: Chapter 2, RRR, Vikram, and perhaps even Hollywood films like Top Gun: Maverick, and Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.

With many multiplexes already sold out for the day, National Cinema Day is estimated to set a new cinema attendance record in 2022. However, many states in the south, like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu will not be able to participate due to state government regulations.

According to MAI, National Cinema Day is aimed at celebrating the reopening of cinemas after the pandemic and also serves as a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers that made this happen. MAI President Kamal Gianchandani has said, “The multiplexes may also make their own special offers, for people of all age groups in order to welcome them to the cinemas that day, but we cannot reveal those details right now.”
Due to its premature success, National Cinema Day is set to be an annual feature, in order to celebrate the Indian film industry. From Raja Harishchandra to Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, it is evident that the film industry has come a long way and clearly has a lot to offer in the future.
