The Government of India has proposed the concept of a ‘meta university’ to enable students to pursue cross-disciplinary programmes simultaneously. Expected to become a reality from the next academic session, the idea was proposed by HRD Minister Kapil Sibal. As per this concept, a student who is from IIT Kanpur for instance, will be able to enroll for a course in Ancient History from Jawaharlal Nehru University. 31,000 colleges and 6,400 universities are expected to be connected under the programme. It will offer India the benefit of innovation given that there is a demand for high-quality education.
