Friends of hit-and-run casualty start online campaign to find culprit

In a case of reckless driving and inhumane behaviour, a hit-and-run case on 25 January resulted in the death of Vinit Sancheti, a resident of Worli, Mumbai. The accident occurred at 4 pm on the JNPT Bypass in Panvel as Vinit was travelling from Mumbai towards Pune on a Yamaha RX 100 motorcycle.

Reports indicate that the unknown car sped onto the main road from a by-lane and rammed into Vinit’s motorcycle in the process. The bike and Vinit are presumed to have slammed into the divider after which the unknown driver of the four-wheeler sped off.

As a result of the accident, Vinit suffered fractures to his arms and legs with a serious injury to his head from impact against the road divider. Unfortunately, he did not receive assistance until police arrived on the spot 45 minutes after the accident and he was taken to MGM Hospital in Kamothe. By 6:30 pm Vinit succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead. His body was sent for a post-mortem where haemorrhagic shock due to polytrauma was determined as the cause of death.

A group of Vinit’s friends, shocked by the loss and appalling state of affairs, have started a website, Facebook page and Twitter account to gather information concerning the accident. They have offered Rs. 1,00,000 to any witness who can provide information on the accident in the effort to help nab the culprit responsible for the hit-and-run. The group of five consists of Dhawal Oza, Hrishikesh Joshi, Ravi Gaur, Prashant Sampat, and Rolland Gotur. They believe the car that caused the accident is a Maruti Suzuki hatchback based on a wheel cap which fell of the car as a result of the accident.

The friends are hopeful of finding the culprit sooner or later and request any form of assistance through their online portals which can be found on the links below:
