Jesuit Higher Education Association South Asia in collaboration with XIM University, is hosting the JHEASA Annual Conference from 26th-28th November 2021.
Jesuit Higher Education Association South Asia (JHEASA) is the association of all Institutions of Jesuit Higher Education in South Asia. This includes Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Law and other professional institutions which cater to higher education needs of bright and young minds of today.
The theme for the conference is “Entrepreneurship and Higher Education.” The world is undergoing rapid changes in the educational and entrepreneurial landscape. The higher education system has recognized the need to become more innovative so as to promote the economic, social, and all round growth and development of nations across the globe. Several academic institutions now acknowledge the importance of an entrepreneurial mindset in guiding the youth towards a rewarding and productive future.
The panel members gracing the event are –
- Dr. Fr Ashok Ohol, SJ, Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS): He holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He has made rich contributions to teaching and research on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Social Change.
- Fr Stany D’ Souza SJ, President of Jesuit Conference of South Asia (POSA): Fr Stany has a degree in philosophy and theology and has completed his doctoral studies (Ph.D.) from Mangalore University. He has vividly contributed to multiple scholarly articles and also has a book to his credit. At POSA, Fr Stany oversees the administration of some important Jesuit training institutes.
- Fr Joye James, Secretary of JHEASA: He has been professor of Social Work at Loyola College of Social Sciences, Trivandrum, and Chairman of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Trivandrum District. He was the State Adviser of AICUF in 1989-1994, Kerala Jesuit Provincial in 2003-09, and Rector and Manager of Loyola College Trivandrum for 11 years. Currently, he is the Vice-President of the Indian Social Institute, Bangalore.
Fr. Antony R. Uvari, S.J., Vice Chancellor, XIM University and Fr. S. Antony Raj, S.J., Registrar, XIM University will also be sharing their thoughts and insights on importance of entrepreneurship in higher education.
The conference details in a nutshell: –
Day 1
The event will commence at 9 am with a Eucharist by Fr Stany D’Souza SJ, followed by the inaugural function. Fr Ashok Ohol SJ. will introduce the audience to the conference’s theme followed by plenary sessions.
Day 2
The day will commence with a Eucharist at 7 am, followed by an open house discussion on the Issues of Jesuit Higher Education. Post this, a meeting on “Future Planning of JHEASA for 2022-23” will be held by the dignitaries.
XIM University is happy to collaborate with JHEASA and be a part of promoting higher education which seeks to build a modern, just and humane society. Since its beginnings, the Society of Jesus has been involved in the apostolate of Higher Education, research, and academic publishing. To make higher education a social force, open conversations on entrepreneurship and higher education are critical today. The conference shall discuss the relevant issues in the education sector in our country and what measures would help usher a new era of education that would allow the world to move beyond existing approaches to embrace more radical innovation and improvement.
