PM Modi inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and RE-INVEST in Gandhinagar, Gujarat

It’s a proud moment for Gujarat living people as it is listed as the top in the overall renewable energy capacity, solar power capacity and wind power capacity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024 on Monday in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district, hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and this three-day conference attracted over 10,000 delegates, including key figures from government, industry, and financial sectors, highlighted India’s impressive progress in renewable energy manufacturing and deployment. 

Featured a two-and-a-half-day conference attracting delegates from around the world. Attendees engaged in a comprehensive program including the Chief Ministerial Plenary, and CEO Roundtable, had a specialized discussion on innovative financing, green hydrogen, and future energy solutions. Germany, Australia, Denmark and Norway took part in the event as partner countries. Gujarat is the host state and Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh are participating as Partner States.

Key Highlights 

  • The 3-day summit honoured the significant contributors to India’s remarkable achievement of over 200 GW of installed non-fossil fuel capacity. 
  • Shri Modi also took a walkthrough of the exhibition showcasing cutting-edge innovations from public and private sector companies, start-ups, and major industry players.
  • “Government’s work in the first 100 days highlights its priorities and gives a reflection of the speed and scale”, PM Modi underlined that all sectors necessary for India’s fast-paced development have been emphasized. 
  • In these 100 days, the Prime Minister said that multiple decisions have been taken to expand the physical and social infrastructure of the nation.
  • Gujarat which has witnessed the inception of the White Revolution, Sweet (Honey) Revolution, and Solar Revolution is now seeing the inauguration of the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and Expo. “Gujarat was the first state in India to have its own Solar Policy.
  • The central theme of RE-INVEST 2024 is Mission 500 GW, which underscores India’s strategic goal to expand its renewable energy capacity significantly by 2030, India aims to further consolidate its leadership in the global energy transition.

International and Indian Participation

International partners for this year’s event include Australia, Denmark, Germany, and Norway. Indian states such as Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh will also participate. High-level delegations from the US, UK, Belgium, the European Union, Oman, UAE, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and ministers from Germany and Denmark, will be in attendance.

Conference Agenda and Exhibitions

The conference has an extensive agenda across 44 sessions, including a Chief Ministerial Plenary, a CEO Roundtable, and discussions on renewable energy innovations and opportunities. Notably, sessions will cover the role of women in accelerating energy transitions and offer a platform for start-ups, including pitches from the winners of the Solar X Challenge. Prime Minister Modi also visited the exhibition organized on the sidelines of RE-INVEST 2024 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. 

The exhibition showcased contributions from the public and private sectors, state governments, and start-ups. Networking opportunities will be facilitated by a dedicated B2B digital platform for business-to-business (B2B), business-to-government (B2G), and government-to-government (G2G) interactions. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is the industry partner for this year’s event.

The inaugural edition of RE-INVEST was held in February 2015 in New Delhi, followed by subsequent editions in October 2018 in Delhi NCR, and a virtual edition in November 2020.

Aim behind launching renewable energy in Gujarat 

  • To achieve the target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and government has turned the green transition into a people’s movement. 
  • India’s unique scheme for Rooftop Solar – PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme where the government funds a Rooftop Solar Setup for every family and helps in installation, through this scheme every household in India becomes a power producer. 
  • The government aims to prepare 3 lakh youth as skilled manpower under this scheme. Out of these, one lakh youth will be Solar PV Technicians. 

So take advantage of projects and schemes in Gujarat including Kutch’s 37 GW hybrid energy park, 4 semiconductor plants and Gujarat’s sector-specific policies, especially the renewable energy policy and green hydrogen policy and understand the importance of the summit “for self-reliance in renewable energy” and achieve the “three goals of energy security, clean energy and net zero through renewable energy”.
