The 2025 Met Gala took place on Monday, May 5, 2025, at its iconic venue, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. At this year’s Met Gala many Indian celebrates and Indian designers took the centre stage. The highlight of the evening was Shah Rukh Khan’s debut on the Met Gala red carpet the only Indian male star who walked the red carpet for the first time. While Mommy to be Kiara Advani sported her cute baby bump in a dazzling outfit. While desi girls Priyanka Chopra and businesswoman Isha Ambani too graced the event. Theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style

The 2025 theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion and focused on Black dandyism—a cultural movement celebrating Black identity through fashion, particularly suiting and tailored elegance. The accompanying dress code, “Tailored for You,” encouraged personalized interpretations of classic tailoring, blending historical references with modern flair. The Gala that serves a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute raised $31 million, the highest in its history.

The exhibition featured 12 sections, including “Ownership,” “Presence,” “Freedom,” and “Cool,” exploring how Black communities have used fashion as a form of resistance, identity, and artistry.

Indian Celebrities Who Shined at the 2025 Met Gala

1. Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan made a historic debut at the 2025 Met Gala, becoming the first Indian male actor to attend the event. Dressed in a custom all-black ensemble by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Khan’s look masterfully blended Indian royal aesthetics with modern tailoring. It was interconnected by an abstract umbilical cord, representing the bond of new life. Complementing this was a dramatic white cape, paying homage to the late fashion icon André Leon Talley, and a structured black gown, embodying strength and elegance. The intricate creation required over 270 hours of meticulous craftsmanship, involving more than 23 artisans. Kiara’s appearance not only marked her first at the Met Gala but also stood as a tribute to her journey into motherhood.

The most famous Punjabi Singer Diljit made a striking debut, honoring his Punjabi roots in a custom ivory ensemble by Prabal Gurung. The attire featured a royal Sikh outfit complete with a turban, drape, and ceremonial sword case, evoking the aura of a modern-day Maharaja. 

4. Isha Ambani

Indian businesswoman Isha Ambani dazzled in a bespoke Anamika Khanna creation. Her outfit comprising of tailored trousers, an embroidered top, and a waistcoat adorned with pearls and tassels. She accessorized with a diamond necklace from her mother Nita Ambani’s collection, reminiscent of the iconic Cartier Toussaint necklace once owned by the Maharaja of Nawanagar featured in “Ocean’s 8.” The ensemble took 15,000 hours to craft, reflecting a fusion of tradition and modernity. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Ambani’s look was enhanced with pearls, tassels, and bird-inspired accessories.

5. Natasha Poonawalla

Philanthropist Natasha Poonawalla embraced her Parsi heritage. in a Manish Malhotra ensemble featuring a sculpted fishtail skirt crafted from two vintage Parsi Gara saris, one over a century old. The look was completed with a corset-cummerbund and a vintage French lace bralette, embodying a blend of structured form and luxury.

6. Mona Patel

Mona Patel captivated attendees with a futuristic Thom Browne ensemble, comprising a custom suit, cape, and corseted bodice. She made headlines by arriving with “Vector,” a robotic dog designed by MIT, symbolizing the intersection of legacy and innovation.

8. Manish Malhotra

Designer Manish Malhotra attended the Met Gala in his own creation. He graced the event in a dramatic ensemble featuring an embroidered cape coat over a silk shirt and intricately detailed tie. His attire embodied the grandeur of Indian craftsmanship, seamlessly aligning with the gala’s theme.

Fashion consultant Diya Mehta made a striking statement in a custom ensemble by Indian label Bloni. Her outfit featured a backless tailored suit crafted from pure Himalayan cashmere, embellished with over 9,000 hand-embroidered white quartz crystals. The ensemble included a sculptural cropped blazer-shirt with curved panels and a dramatic floor-sweeping train. She accessorized with a Nehru cap, an antique silver cane, and heirloom polki jewelry, embodying a modern interpretation of dandyism rooted in Indian heritage .
