The Central Board of Secondary Education announced that class 12 results on Saturday, and it was a celebration for many. Trivandrum, Chennai and Delhi emerged as the top 3 best-performing regions, same as in 2017. 12 lakh students registered for the exam, and an overall pass percentage of 83.01% was recorded.
Meghan Srivastava of Ghaziabad became the All-India topper with a score of 499 out of 500, an aggregate of 99.8%. Srivastava, a student of Noida’s Step by Step school credits hard work and consistency to her achievement. She scored 99 in English and a perfect 100 in History, Geography, Psychology and Economics. She wants to major in Psychology, but is still unclear about what she ultimately wants to do in her career.
Also from Ghaziabad, Anoushka Chandra, a student of SAJ School came a close second with a total of 498 out of 500 marks (99.6%). Supriya Kaushik from Noida’s Cambridge School scored 497 out of 500 (99.4%) which she also shared with seven other students, and a perfect 100 out of 100 in the English language. This year, girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 88.31% against boys’ 78.99%.
A Kerela teen who was expelled for hugging his female friend in school has bagged a 91.02% aggregate in the exams. This comes after the boy forfeited nearly half his academic year due to his expulsion. The boy was only allowed to sit for the exams after the school lifted the ban, and both the girl and his families withdrew their complaints against the school. The incident sparked much outrage last year.
A separatist leader’s 19-year-old daughter Sama Shabir Shah topped the CBSE exams in J&K with a 97.8% aggregate. While she was happy with her achievement, she was sad because the news couldn’t reach her father Shabir Shah, who is facing jail time in Tihar jail for his connection to a money laundering case allegedly linked to terror financing. Sama wants to study law owing to the ‘injustice’ her family has faced, and wants to help them and her state.
Prince Kumar, the son of a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver, has topped the CBSE exams in the Science Stream with an aggregate of 97%. Kumar, the overall government school topper, is still coming to terms with his ‘unexpected’ achievement. “I am the son of a DTC bus driver…Now I have media people calling me”, said an emotional Kumar.
The CBSE class 10 results will be declared by 4 pm tomorrow, and can even check their results via Google, as did the class 12 students.
