1. CISCE reduces 25% of syllabus for Class 10, 12 amid pandemic

CISCE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) has decided to cut down the syllabus of classes 10 and 12 for all the major subjects by 25 percent for the academic year 2020-2021. The CISCE board has taken this decision considering the “linear progression across classes while ensuring that the core concepts related to the subjects are retained”, as reported in the Indian Express. This reduction in syllabus is going to be applied for the ICSE, ISC board exams that will be conducted in 2021. Further, CISCE Chief Executive and Secretary Gerry Arathoon, has also intimated that if the conditions don’t improve in the upcoming months, there even might be a 50 percent reduction in the syllabus. 

2. ISRO’s Mangalyaan captures picture of Mars’ biggest moon

Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Mars Orbiter Mission captured the image of the closest and biggest moon of Mars, named Phobos. The image was captured by the orbiter on July 1 when MOM was about 7,200 km from Mars and 4,200 km from Phobos. ISRO said in an update by sharing an image, “Spatial resolution of the image is 210 m. This is a composite image generated from 6 MCC frames and has been color corrected” 

3. Jean Castex appointed as the new Prime Minister of France

France President Emmanuel Macron has appointed a new Prime Minister, Jean Castex to lead a new team of ministers. This announcement came after the former PM of France, Edouard Philippe tendered his resignation to the President. In a recently conducted election, the ruling party had poor local election results as a consequence of which Mr. Philippe and the president agreed on the resignation. Jean Castex, the new PM of France is a senior civil servant and has played a significant role in the government’s tackling of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

4. Facebook, Instagram soon to remind its users to wear masks in the US

Facebook Inc. has announced that the users of Facebook and Instagram in the United States will be reminded to wear face masks when they visit the applications. It said it is planning on putting an alert at the top of both the platforms. It will also ask users to look at additional prevention tips from the CDC in its COVID-19 Information Center.

5. Waqar Younis says, “didn’t realize Tendulkar was going to be such a big name”

Ex-Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis, recalling Sachin Tendulkar’s Test debut against Pakistan, revealed that India’s ex-cricketer and batsman, Sachin Tendulkar didn’t give him the impression that he’s going to be “such a big name in cricket”. “The first Test was at Karachi. I got him early…he didn’t score much after that…but then he played [a] knock of fifty which really showed his class,” the cricketer added.

6. Class 10 board result of MP declared, 15 students top with 100%

The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) declared the 10th class board examination results of 2020 on Saturday at 12 noon. The result of the examination can be checked on the official website at mpbse.nic.in.  In this academic year, a total of 15 students topped the MP State Board Class 10 examination by scoring 100 percent marks. The name of these students are, Abhinav Sharma, Lakshdeep Dhakad, Priyanshu Raghuvanshi, Pawan Bhargava, Chatur Kumar Tripathi, Hariom Patidar, Rajnandini Saxena, Siddharth Singh Shekhawat, Harsh Pratap Singh, Kavita Lodhi, Muskan Malviya, Devanshi Raghuvanshi, Karnika Mishra, Prashant Vishwakarma, Vedika Vishwakarma have scored 100% in the MP Board 10th Result 2020. Approximately 11.5 lakh students appeared in the MP Board class 10 exam in 2020. 

7. Class 12 results of TN to be announced in July 2nd week: Education Minister

The state Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, KA Sengottaiyan announced that the  Class 12 board exam results will be declared in the second week of July with CM Edappadi K Palaniswami’s consent. The results initially were to be announced in the first week of July. The state had conducted the class 12 board examinations from March 2 to March 24. However, examination for one subject couldn’t be conducted due to the coronavirus lockdown. Now, out of only 34,000 students, 718 agreed to appear for the examination. The education minister said they were are still trying to figure a way out.

8. HRD Ministry permits teachers, non-teaching staff to work from home till July 31

The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) headed by HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, sent out a  circular to higher education regulators, stating that teachers, researchers, and non-teaching staff should be permitted to work from home till July 31. The circular mentioned, “This period will be counted as on duty for staff. “Online and distance education “shall continue to be permitted and encouraged”, it added.

9. Plant 115 saplings before felling 23 trees: HC to MMRDA

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been restricted by the Bombay High court from the felling of 23 trees for the Airoli to Katai Naka freeway unless it plants 115 saplings as per the report of the Tree Authority, Thane. MMRD however informed the court that it had abided by all the instructions and also planted trees. On this the HC said that as the Thane Authority had recommended plantation of 115 additional saplings and identified the spot for the same, MMRDA would be able to carry out the felling only after planting the said 115 saplings.

10. LinkedIn copying iOS users’ clipboard data, promises a fix

LinkedIn owned by the tech giant, Microsoft was caught copying the contents of an iOS device’s clipboard, a user of iOS 14 Developer beta tweeted. The forthcoming iOS 14 has an inbuilt feature that notifies users when an app is pasting from the clipboard. Erran Berger, LinkedIn’s Engineering VP  acknowledged the issue and assured the users it doesn’t store or transmit the clipboard contents. He said a solution to this will soon be released.
