1. India, China to conduct military talks to address Ladakh dispute, on June 6

Lieutenant General-level talks to address Ladakh dispute is being scheduled to be held on June 6 between India and China. Quoting the Indian Army sources, news agency ANI reported that the dispute between the two nations was over the eastern Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control. 

14 Corps Commander Lt Gen Harinder Singh has scheduled to hold talks with his Chinese counterpart settle with a solution on the Ladakh dispute over the heavy military build-up of over 5000 troops in the Eastern Ladakh sector by People’s Liberation Army.

2. To empower MSMEs, PM Modi launches tech platform ‘Champions’

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a technology platform named ‘CHAMPIONS’ that aims to strengthen the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). CHAMPIONS will support, help, empower, encourage, and solve the grievances of small scale companies and help them develop nationally and internationally. CHAMPIONS’ system is enabled by artificial intelligence, data analytics and machine learning.

3. PM discusses India-China border situation with Trump, gets invited to attend G-7

US President Donald Trump spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the call for over 40 minutes and discussed the India-China border standoff that was triggered in the month of May after China’s People’s Liberation Army activated the Line of Actual Control at Naku La area in north Sikkim and also at three points in Galwan and one point at Pangong Tso in Ladakh. Apart from this, Trump also invited Modi to join the next G7 meet that is going to be held in the US. 

4. Google Play Store removes India’s ‘Remove China Apps

Google has pulled an app named “Remove China Apps” from its Play Store for reasons unknown. The app was helping users identify and remove apps of Chinese origin. Before the app was pulled out, the Jaipur based app attracted over 50 lakh downloads in just over two weeks since its launch date. This is the second time Google Play Store has removed an Indian app in the last few days. Earlier, an app named Mitron, a TikTok clone was pulled out. The reason behind removing the recent app, tech experts suggest, could be the violation of Google Play policy.  

5. 1st tranche of 100 ventilators ready to be shipped from US to India next week

The US is ready to ship its first tranche of 100 donated ventilators to India by next week, President Donald Trump told Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a conference call. This was told by Trump when the two leaders were on a 40 min long call with each other. The news of the shipment was confirmed by the White House. Over the call, Trump also expressed his wish of PM to attend the Group of Seven meet and invited him for the same. PM Modi too commended Trump for his creative and far-sighted approach, acknowledging the fact that such an expanded forum would be in keeping with the emerging realities of the post-Covid world, reported PTI. 

6. Rs 50,000 cr plan launched by India to attract smartphone and component makers

The Government of India has launched a Rs 50,000 crore plan with the motive to boost electronics manufacturing in India and confirmed that it would start by offering five global smartphone makers incentives to set up or boost domestic production. The government will also be offering a production-linked incentive (PLI) which involves cash worth 4 per cent to 6 per cent of the additional sales of goods made locally over five years, with 2019-2020 as the base year. The scheme was announced by the Union Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad. 

7. Pregnant Elephant dies after being fed pineapple with firecrackers by locals in Kerala

In another incident that clearly showed the level of brutality humans can hit, a pregnant elephant was fed a pineapple stuffed with firecrackers in the state of Kerala. The elephant died on the sport, standing in the water. The firecrackers exploded in her mouth leaving her writhing in pain. The animal was roaming around in the village in search for some food, however, all it got was pain and injuries which led to her death. An FIR has been lodged against unidentified people. 

8. Gay dating app Grindr announces the removal of its ethnicity filter to fight racism

Grindr, gay dating app has decided to remove the ethnicity filter from the next release after receiving feedbacks over it. “We stand in solidarity with…#BlackLivesMatter movement and…queer people of colour who log in to our app every day,” the app said. It announced the removal of the filter as a part of its commitment to fight racism on Grindr.

9. Adolf Hitler’s birthplace to be redesigned into a police station in Austria

Austrian authorities have revealed that it will be redesigning the birthplace of dictator Adolf Hitler into a police station. The design of the police station has already been prepared. “A new chapter will be opened for the future from the birth house of a dictator and mass murderer,” Karl Nehammer, Austrian Interior Minister told the media. An Austrian architecture firm will carry out the changes designed to stop the site attracting neo-Nazis

10. Actor Ajay Devgn paying for oxygen cylinders and ventilators at Dharavi quarantine facility

Singham Actor Ajay Devgn is bearing the expenses of oxygen cylinders and ventilators which are being used in a quarantine facility at Mumbai’s Dharavi aread, amid the COVID-19 outbreak. “We told him we needed oxygen cylinders for all 200 beds and two portable ventilators. He…agreed to pay for them,” an Assistant Municipal Commissioner said. Earlier, Ajay also helped 700 families by providing ration and hygiene kits to them.
