University of Hyderabad union’s students stage protests against discriminatory criteria for entrance exam

The students of the University of Hyderabad launched a hunger strike to protest against the discriminatory critics of the entrance exam. Abhishek Nandan, Union President of University of Hyderabad stated that the strike would continue until the minimum qualifying criteria was withdrawn. There are about 71 vacant seats of which 64 have been reserved. 

Man in TN sets up classroom for underprivileged students

Dinesh Saravanan, an IT employee began collecting funds by raising awareness on social media. He managed to build a smart classroom for unprivileged students of a government school in Vellore. The project started early this year and school authorities were supportive of this idea. However, the pandemic brought in a few delays. The classroom is well equipped to help students and teachers. 

Nokia to build 4G network on the moon

NASA announced plans to have a 4G network on the moon in an attempt to sustain human presence there eventually. $14 million was given to Nokia’s Bell Labs to help with the project. This is sure to improve and evolve communication.

Pakistan most likely to stay on ‘greylist’ of the FATF

Pakistan failed to fulfil six key obligations of the Financial Action Task Force. They had been given 27 action plans out of which they fulfilled 21 but failed in some key tasks. The disappearance of 4,000 out of 7,600 names of terrorists did not go unnoticed. Countries like Germany and the US are not satisfied with Islamabad’s commitment to take action against terror groups. A virtual plenary will be held from Oct 21- Oct 23 and Pakistan’s continuation on the greylist will be decided. 

Warner breaks Kolhi’s record, becomes fastest batsman to reach 5,000 runs in IPL

After the match against KKR, David Warner is now the fastest batsman to reach 5,000 runs in IPL, taking 135 innings. The previous record was held by Virat Kohli who took 157. On the same day, three super overs were witnessed for the first time. 

Nationwide lockdown to be imposed in Ireland

On 19th Oct, 2020, a nationwide lockdown will be imposed in Ireland. They will stop reintroducing the kind of lockdown that was imposed earlier. On Saturday they broke their record for the highest number of cases. 

DuoCooling technology launched in India by Liebherr Refrigerators

Liebherr Refrigerators launched the DuoCooling technology in India. It aims at preventing moisture loss and retain super precise temperature. An ad was shot in a tightly controlled environment to show the effect of the “freshness lock”. 

2nd cut-off list released by DU

Admissions against the second cut off list will open from 19th Oct, 2020. The cut-offs are set between 98% and 99%. Registrations end on 21st Oct, 2020.  The second cut off is only a slight change and competition continues to be cutthroat.

MMRDA to beautify Matheran to attract more tourists

Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority announced its plans to beautify Matheran to attract more tourists. 50% of the project has already been completed. Authorities stated that the beautification is being taken in four viewpoints. They even mentioned that environmental constraints have been taken care of. Fixing of street lights and other such amenities is also being covered. 

Ministry of Aviation announces passenger eligibility

The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced eligibility for passengers travelling between India and Qatar. They signed a bilateral air bubble pact. That means, stranded Indians can now travel back and people from India can also go there while observing all the safety measures. This air bubble pact is valid till 31st October, 2020.
