Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey Clarifies That Twitter Will Never Have An ‘Edit Tweet’ Option

It’s been a long time since Twitter users have been demanding Twitter for an ‘edit tweet’ button that would enable them to change, edit and rectify errors in the tweet. The CEO, Jack Dorsey has however clarified that the company might never provide this feature to its users. The reason behind this decision of the company is to maintain the original design and vibe on the bases of which Twitter was founded.

Currently, Twitter does not enable its users to make any changes in the tweet once it is tweeted. The only options users have is either to reply to their own tweet with the corrections and other changes they wish to make or simply delete the tweet.

Very recently, Jack Dorsey answered a few questions of the users through a video on the platform of Wired. During this, one user asked him when Twitter would introduce the ‘edit tweet’ feature, Jack Dorsey clearly stated, “we will probably never do it”.

He mentions that “We started as an SMS, text message service. And as you all know, when you send a text, you can’t really take it back. We wanted to preserve that vibe, that feeling, in the early days” Dorsey further stated that Twitter doesn’t feel the urgent need to introduce such the edit feature although he accepts that the feature can have both good and bad uses. While the good part involves letting users edit the typos and rectify the tweet, enabling the edit button will also allow users to carry out wrong activities like editing the tweet to mislead people.

He says, “You might send a tweet and then someone might retweet that, and then an hour later you completely change the content of that tweet…The person that retweeted the original tweet is now retweeting and rebroadcasting something completely different.” This explanation does make sense.

Jack Dorsey’s team at Twitter had once considered and planned on bringing in the ‘edit tweet’ option earlier, however, after carefully analysing all the aspects in detail, the company dropped the idea. This indicates that Twitter is definitely not going to bring for its users an edit tweet option any time soon.

Sorry, Twitterati for this bad news!
