ADIDAS Partners With Parley To Go Eco-Friendly

The all famous ADIDAS has been in great controversy for making alleged shoddy FIFA World Cup footballs, like the Telstar 18 and the Jabulani. But, now they have a reason to shine. ADIDAS has shown us why it won’t be leaving its top spot any soon by going ocean-friendly.

According to CEO, Kasper Rorsted, ADIDAS has sold over 1 million shoes made of ocean plastic in the year 2017. Ocean plastic refers to the plastic which has contaminated the oceans. It collaborated with Parley for the Oceans Initiative to manufacture these shoes. One shoe reuses eleven plastic bottles from the ocean.

The company Parley turns the ocean plastic into a polymer which can be used to make the shoes. This is a huge boost for environmental conservation as ocean plastic is abundant in the oceans across the world.

The good news is that ADIDAS is not the only company to be involved in the conservationist business model. Nike which uses leather to make its shoes has found a way to stitch the leftover hide and use it to make shoes. This material, though not pure leather, feels like premium leather.

A skateboard company called Bureo used discarded fishnets to make its skateboards. Companies like Earth Tec make clothing using plastic from landfills. Even simple things like switching to solar power like what Johnson & Johnson have done, can help in environmental conservation.

Going green is slowly becoming the policy of many companies. If more companies indulge in such eco-friendly means, we could soon help restrict global warming and climate change. Ocean plastic is very harmful for marine animals and coral reefs. The Pacific Garbage Patch is one of the worst cases in the world today. Maybe instead of banning plastic altogether, as it has become very useful today, we can recycle it and reduce the burden on Mother Nature.

ADIDAS’ step towards conservation is only the beginning and if such programs are well supported, we could see plastic disappear from our oceans very soon.
