If you’re amongst the many that are agitated by pestering telemarketing calls and messages, we have some relieving news for you. TRAI has launched a new app called DND services. This app will enable you to block all the unwanted calls and messages. Not just that, you can also register a complaint against that number through this app as well.
While talking to the press, R.S.Sharma, Chairman of TRAI said, “We have stringent rules in place for checking promotional calls and SMS, but companies are finding ways to bypass them. There have been issue in their enforcement. The new mobile app will help people to file complaints and help us in monitoring such activities.”
Currently, this DND services app is available only to the android users, but members of TRAI have assured that it’ll soon be available on iOS as well.
Before this app was launched, subscribers had the option to register a complaint by forwarding a message on 1909 with all the details or by sending mails to customer care. However, it was considered an arduous process. With this app, the subscribers will get to see their SMSs and mobile numbers in a list form, and can select the SMSs and numbers they want to complaint against and select the report option. TRAI has also laid down rules and regulation for telemarketing companies, which will ensure that consumers are not contacted again once they have blocked the call. If the marketing companies fail to follow these rules, they will be levied with a fine of up to Rs 2.5 lakhs.
