Rising Star – March 2013

Lasini is a model who has appeared in ads and has walked the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week. Now awaiting the release of her debut film in Tamil (Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal) in which she has a costarring role, Lasini talks to us about her journey

Tell us about yourself
I am a pretty chilled out person. I love to eat and eat to live. As a child model as I was very fat. But I would always feel that good looking people have an easy life, hence I wanted to be a part of that category. I started modelling when I was in college and now the journey continues.

What does Lasini mean?
It’’s a name of a goddess.

Your impression of modelling after your first stint
My first stint as such was when I joined the ‘I Am She’ pageant. I had no clue what to do and what not to do. But I slowly started to take in as much as I could within the training time that I spent with the team there.

Landing a movie role is like…
It still feels like a dream. The director and his team are wonderful and have supported me immensely.

Wearing a bikini for the first time – what were the thoughts racing in your head?
I was very nervous. I didn’t think I could pull it off. But once I got on that stage it kind of felt freeing in a strange way. It sure makes one shed a lot of their inhibitions.

Biggest challenge in moving from modelling to acting
I look forward to things that challenge me so I guess I am still discovering what those challenges are.

Do you have plans to foray into Bollywood as well?
If the opportunity knocks I would want to answer it.

What are you like when the makeup is erased and the strobe lights are switched off?
Well, except when I am working I am sans makeup and in my sweat pants, most of the time. I like spending time watching movies, finding new places to eat and chilling with my friends.

The biggest myth about the glamour industry that isn’t true
That it’s easy. It’s all fun and games, and looking pretty is all that matters. One has to be focused and determined. There are too many deterrents and distractions. I always believe that if it were that easy none of us would want it that bad. So work hard and give it your all.

Lasinin in 5 years will be…
Hopefully happy doing what she loves best!

Ideal movie role
It’s funny when I say this……but I want to be able to do a female Dabangg someday. I loved what Salman did.

A movie you wish you had a part in
3 Idiots. I loved each and every second of that movie. So inspiring yet so entertaining.

Your dream date
Along the beach by the sunset with my loved one.
