Racism is still a problematic social issue among today’s young people, as demonstrated by the many actions and behaviours that support this divisive philosophical thought. To face and conquer this widespread issue, it is essential to bring the spotlight on the various manners in which individuals engage with racism.
The world of social media has become a racist shelter as well as a platform for spreading awareness. The spread of unfavourable stereotypes hate speech, and bullying all contribute to the maintenance of racist beliefs among young people. Encouraging digital compassion and educating people about online behaviour can help overcome these negative trends.
Attacks on others are common examples of racism; they are unnoticeable, often accidental, separating comments or actions. Racist insults, discriminatory conduct, and stereotyping are examples of this small-scale abuse. We must recognise and confront these hidden actions to eliminate fundamental stereotypes.
Systemic racial discrimination, which is deeply embedded within institutions and laws, also affects the way individuals behave. To create a more fair society, it is important to identify and remove these fundamental obstacles.
The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, whose background has to do with the continuous struggle against systematic discrimination, has been one of the most significant movements in the past few years.
Following the untimely death of Trayvon Martin in 2012, the Black Lives Matter movement emerged as a potent movement against racist institutions and violence by police.
Significant incidents like the shooting murder of Eric Garner and Michael Brown in Ferguson gave the cause even more support. A worldwide conversation on racial injustice was started by a slogan, “Black Lives Matter,” reverberated through demonstrations, social media efforts, and talks.
The impacts of racism on people of colour are extensive and diverse. Discrimination has a broad influence, ranging from psychological effects like low self-esteem to structural inequities across healthcare, work, and education. Due to these disparities, Black communities continue to experience restricted opportunities and economic cycles.
In order to confront racism within today’s youngsters, they must understand the history of Black Lives Matter. It acts as an example that relentless work, allies, and a dedication to breaking down systemic obstacles are necessary in the battle against racism. Through gaining knowledge from BLM’s development, we may inspire today’s youngsters to confront discrimination, cultivate feelings for others, and help create a better tomorrow for everybody.
Battling racism in today’s kids demands an integrated strategy that takes into account both open and concealed expressions. We can strive to produce a generation that opposes racism and celebrates differences by bringing attention to these actions and encouraging compassion and acceptance.
