An emergency has been declared in Colombia after a plane carrying members of a Brazilian football team crashed with 72 members on board. The plane is said to have crashed around 10:15pm local time in Cerro Gordo.
According to reports, the flight was transporting the Brazilian side Chapecoense to Medellin airport when it disappeared off radar. It’s not clear if there are any survivors. Medellin’s airport confirmed that the aircraft, which departed from Bolivia, was transporting the Chapecoense soccer team from southern Brazil, which was scheduled to play the Copa Sudamerica finals against Atletico Nacional on Wednesday in Medellin.
Evacuations are underway as ambulances and rescuers were on their way. According to reports, the crash was due to low fuel. However, the exact reason of plane crash is still unknown.
