Indus water meet between India, Pakistan to begin after two and a half years

On Tuesday, India and Pakistan initiated the Indus water meet in New Delhi after an interval of more than two-and-a-half years. The last meeting was held in August 2018 between Indus commissioners of the two countries under the 1960 Indus Water Treaty (IWT). It is a water-distribution treaty between the two nations

SC refuses extension of loan moratorium and waiver of complete interest

The Supreme Court has chosen to not interfere with the centre’s and the RBI’s loan moratorium policy and has refused the extension of six months loan moratorium period. The court also declined permission to waive off complete interest as it affects depositors.  A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and MR Shah passed the verdict.

5 Indian female wrestlers selected for the upcoming Asian Olympic qualifiers

Indian female wrestlers namely Seema (50kg), Anshu Malik (57kg), Sonam Malik (62kg), Nisha Dahiya (68kg), and Pooja Sihag (76kg) have been selected for the Asian Olympic qualifiers and Asian Championship which is going to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The selection of these five wrestlers happened in the national selection trials at STC Lucknow. The championships are going to be conducted from April 9 to 18.

Delhi govt grants approval to set up 100 schools of specialized excellence

A proposal to set up 100 schools of “specialized excellence” in the city of Delhi has been cleared by the Delhi Government. The schools will include grades 9 to 12 and will be choice-based. These schools are to have four domains of specialization namely, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Performing and Visual Arts, Humanities and “high-end 21st-century skills”.

Everyone above 45 years of age eligible for COVID-19 vaccination from April 1

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has announced that all belonging above the age of 45 irrespective of co-morbidities will be eligible for receiving the COVID-19 vaccination from the 1st of  April. “We request that all eligible should immediately register and get vaccinated,” the minister said.

UN chief expresses concerns over rising attacks against Asians during pandemic

Commenting on the American shooting incident that recently took place, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his concerns over rising violence against people of Asian descent during the pandemic. “In some countries, Asian women have been specifically targeted for attack, adding misogyny to the toxic mix of hatred,” Farhan Haq, a spokesperson of the UN said. 

‘Nomadland’ Oscar-nominated film to release in India on April 2

Oscar-nominated film ‘Nomadland’ directed by filmmaker Chloe Zhao’s is soon to release in India on April 2. The film starring Frances McDormand and David Strathairn had secured six nominations at the Oscars including the Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Director. Besides the Oscars, the film also won the Best Picture at the 78th Golden Globe Awards.

AISF marching towards Telangana Assembly over education funds gets detained

On Monday, members of the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) were detained by the police for marching towards Telangana Assembly in Hyderabad. AISF was protesting against the lack of funds allocated to the education sector in the state’s budget. 

Union Home Ministry tells Parliament, India witnessed 300% rise in cyber attacks

Citing the data from Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the union home ministry on Tuesday revealed to the parliament that the cyberattacks amid the Covid-19 pandemic shot up to 300% in2020 in the country to reach 1,158,208 compared to 394,499 in 2019. This happened due to the increased online activity by the citizens of the country.  

‘Massive’ fire at Rohingya camp in Bangladesh kills 15, 400 go missing

A fire that broke out at the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, has claimed the loves of 15 people. “We still have 400 people unaccounted for, maybe somewhere in the rubble,” a statement from the UN stated. “What we’ve seen in this fire is something we’ve never seen before in these camps. It’s massive,” UN further added.
