Amid rising cases of COVID-19, schools in Mumbai to remain shut till 31st December

All the schools in Mumbai are to remain shut till the end of the year, i.e till 31st December, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday. E the schools were to reopen from November 23. The schools in other cities of Maharashtra can reopen as per schedule considering the local conditions and the prevailing pandemic situation, an official said. On the other hand, education institutes in Haryana will remain shut till the end of November

Terrorists killed in the Nagrota encounter had panned massive attack on 26/11 anniversary

The terrorists killed in the Nagrota encounter yesterday had planned a major incident on the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, top government sources informed. Four terrorists were encountered at Nagrota on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting to discuss the same with Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, and the top intelligence establishment.

Delhi to charge ₹2k fine for spitting in public places, violating social distancing rules

Considering the rise in the number of infections, the government of Delhi has announced a fine of ₹2,000 on those who are caught chewing and spitting tobacco and pan masala in public, violating COVID-19 quarantine and social distancing norms. Just a few days back the government had also increased the fine amount for not wearing a mask from Rs 500 to Rs 2,000. Delhi, so far, has recorded 5,17,238 COVID-19 cases.

Yemen most likely to witness the world’s worst famine in decades: UN chief

Talking about the concerning situation in Yemen, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the country is in “imminent danger of the worst famine the world has seen for decades”. “In the absence of immediate action, millions of lives may be lost,” he added. He has urged all to avoid “taking actions that could make a dire situation worse”. This statement from the general secretary comes after the US threatened to blacklist Yemen’s Iran-allied Houthi group.

Players below the age of 15 won’t play international cricket: ICC

In a new decision, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has set the minimum age restrictions for international cricket in order to improve the safeguarding of players which will apply across all cricket including ICC events, bilateral cricket, and Under-19 cricket. Players must have a minimum age of 15 to qualify to play in any form of men’s, women’s, or Under-19 international cricket. Member boards however could apply to ICC in exceptional cases.

Summit of Mount Everest a victim of microplastic pollution: Researchers

Evidence of microplastics near Mount Everest’s summit has been found by the researchers studying samples collected by National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Everest Expedition. The Base Camp of the mountain was where huge concentrations of microplastics were found. The samples collected included polyester, acrylic, nylon, and polypropylene fibres. 

84,726 poor to be provided houses by Uttarakhand govt under PMAYG by 2022

Madan Kaushik, Uttarakhand Minister of Urban Development and Housing has announced that the state government will be providing houses to 84,726 beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin (PMAYG) by March the year 2022. “These beneficiaries will also be given the benefits of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, gas and electric connection, besides drinking water facility,” the minister said.

Actress Richa Chadha, who recently received Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar Award, took to Instagram to express her thoughts on receiving the award. ‘Zillennials’ on track to overtake millennials in income by 2031: BofA

A report released by Bank of America has revealed that the Zillennials’, or ‘Gen Zs’, those born between about 1996 and 2016, are soon to overtake millennials in income by 2031. “They’re entering the workforce and compelling other generations to adapt to them,” the report read. “Their income is set to grow 400% over the next decade to $33 trillion,” it added.

Entertainment website BuzzFeed has recently acquired news website HuffPost from Verizon Media, which is also the owner of Yahoo and TechCrunch. The company is also making an investment in BuzzFeed. Jonah Peretti, CEO of BuzzFeed was also one of the co-founders of The Huffington Post. Verizon Media had taken overThe Huffington Post in 2011.
